The use of Sabotage was well-played in the movie. I was at the top of the theater and virtually every head in the crowd was bobbing.

It's not that women aren't funny, for me. It's that Melissa McCarthy isn't funny. She's the female Kevin James.

McCarthy is hit-or-miss for me. I've seen a lot of her stuff the last few years on HBO. I loved The Heat, her weird character in Hangover III and Identity Thief. I don't think I laughed once at Tammy, and the one-minute bits I've seen of Spy haven't made me want to watch the movie.

Heard on the radio this morning they're remaking Oceans 11 with an all-female cast. Can't wait for that round of "you're a misogynist because you didn't like this film!"

  5. I was unaware of the movie Sausage Party. Some new animated Seth Rogen movie.
I watched a trailer last night. Aside from being foul-mouthed, it looks like an unfunny bomb. Nothing funny about about it unless you consider a talking hot dog saying "Fuck" a couple of times hilarious.
    I don't get it.

Florence Foster Jenkins. A Movie for women, older women. It was funny and sweet. Great acting all round. Hugh Grant was very good. Streep is Streep. Simon Helberg was funny.

Went with Mrs. Novelist to see it this afternoon. We were the youngest people watching. Movie had an old classics feel to it. Nice departure from my normal action and spy fare. I agree the acting was great all around. Was really impressed at Streep's performance. If you can sing, it has to be incredibly hard to sing poorly on purpose.

    Saw Star Trek: Beyond.

Good Star Trek film. Hits all the Trekkie things without being boring.

I really like the guy who plays Bones. He does a great job.

An enjoyable romp, even if it leans too much on CGI.

    Fine by me.

I think the movie's problem was really simple: The two stars played it straight and let their far-less-talented co-stars ham it up and steal scenes, only they didn't do a very good job of it.

Kristen Wiig, for my money, is really damn talented.

Kate McKinnon is not as much.

Maybe it was just the theater I saw it in, but I almost felt like the director's ideas for special f/x were a little too much for the f/x team to handle. Got a little fuzzy at times.
