    Mister ...

    Doctor.

    Mister Doctor?

    It's Strange.

Maybe, who am I to judge?

Liked it, didn't love it. Rank it just below Ant-Man among the Marvel films, which is still high.

Have a day off tomorrow and thinking of catching a matinee. Is it worth seeing Dr. Strange in 3-D?

Watching a lot of escapist movies to keep from stabbing my ears and eyes out with a hand full of cheap Bics. It should be noted that I am watching DVDs to keep from stabbing fellow humans who seem to have been raised in barns with cheap Bics.

Inside Out I made the mistake of seeing this in the theater with a former coworker who crabbed that it "wasn't the way the brain worked." It's a friggin' cartoon. ::grumble:: No one has ever given me brownie points for not driving past one of the Priest Lake loading docks at high speed and pushing this person out of my car and I'm still a little bitter about that. So I had the DVD and decided to watch it this weekend. They nailed kid angst and depression. I wish this had been around when I worked in peds/ado psych. It's beautifully animated. The voice acting is perfect. Dammit. I cried at the end.

I Love You To Death William Hurt and Keanu Reeves steal this movie from some pretty fast company, comedy-wise. This is the closest thing to a screwball comedy to come out of Hollywood in the last half-century or so. Very funny turns by Kevin Kline, Tracey Ullman, and Joan Plowright. Too bad Neo is a Leafs fan. Otherwise he doesn't suck.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter This movie is big, loud, stupid, and it makes me entirely too happy. The acting is great, the production design is pretty darned good, and the fight sequences are just right for the period and the tone of the narrative.

Hacksaw Ridge is a piece of crap. The first half is just a bucket of cliches. The battle scenes are impressive, but Gibson's depictions of violence are borderline pornographic.

'Trainwreck' = terrible with one of the dumbest endings I have seen in a long time

Enjoyed the book, went to show and did not remember everything.

Blunt is good as an alcoholic. Old guy here but wow Haley Bennett is smoldering. Book is better vehicle for the story.

Boy and buddy went to see Dr. Strange while I was in theatre here.

I saw Dr. Strange today. When the credits started, my daughter turned to me and asked, "That's it?" That was my feeling as well. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it well. The movie was entertaining enough and the cast was good, but I still came away underwhelmed.

I did like the way they tied it to the MCU. One link is a spoiler I won't post. Another was a fun mid-credits scene. But there were others, such as one of the cases Dr. Strange turns down while he is driving. You have to listen closely to the conversation to get it.

So Emma Roberts is the daughter of Eric and niece of Julia. It's a fun teen thriller.

    Inherent Vice
A fun Paul Anderson stoner detective romp set in 1970 with Joaquin Phoenix. You really have to pay attention to keep up with how 3 cases tie together by the end. Good luck, Doc.

'Arrival' = disappointing, although Amy Adams is good
It reminded me of 'Interstellar' because I was really engrossed for most of the movie, and then it go dumb in the third act.

I just really like Amy Adams.

In Hacksaw Ridge, a guy gets blown in half by the Japanese. So his buddy grabs his upper torso, uses it as a shield and assaults the enemy position, mowing them all down with his BAR.

And that's before another dude karate kicks a grenade in midair.

I legitimately liked the movie, but the absurdities of parts of the battle scene really detract from it. I don't know why directors have to cartoon-up their war movies like that. It's an amazing story on its own, and Okinawa was gruesome enough without having to bump it all up to 11.

It's not so far-fetched when you consider what happened during the Battle of Bennington ...

Historical consultant Robert A. Selig offered one personal account that was recorded: One man showed up to fight without shoes and planned to steal a pair of boots off of a Hessian. The first Hessian's boots didn't fit, so he killed another. The moment he put them on his feet, he was shot and killed.

That really needs to be a scene in a movie.

What's hidden under the Bennington Battlefield
