Just got back from watching this. It's brilliant. I'd recommend going in cold on this. Don't read any reviews. Form your opinions as the movie progresses. It's a fun ride.

Saw "Three Billboards" and was puzzled, too many loose ends at the conclusion. Definitely moving, funny, then serious. Wasn't looking for a "Hollywood" ending, but questioned choice of conclusion.

I'm not 100 percent on the ending either, but I thought the movie was terrific. Sam Rockwell is so good. The scene where he's on the phone with Frances McDormand at the end—he plays that so well. He's pretty much great in everything, but I think this is the best he's been.

PS: Also thought Peter Dinklage was really good.

I saw "To Build a House" on cable again the other night. I really like that movie and watch it pretty much any time it's on. I'm a sucker for Kevin Kline movies, like "Big Chill" and "Grand Canyon." Not so much for Silverado.

The characters in The Big Chill are about 70years old now

Damn, that would be a decent sequel at this point in their lives. The cast is still around, figure there would be second wives, widows and widowers. Surprised Kasdan hasn't pitched it. It would get a green-light tomorrow.
Close, Hurt, Klein, Goldblum, Berenger? Use Trump being elected as the backdrop? The crappy Michigan football program?

"I figured it would be BETTER! now. Why isn't it BETTER!?

The Border. Jack Nicholson was awesome.

Had an unexpected long weekend and really couldn't leave the apartment, so I watched both the Raiders and Star Wars trilogies, plus the making ofs for both.

Learned that Temple was filmed partly in Kandy, Sri Lanka and almost laughed out loud because I went a few months ago and, in the botanical garden there, there's a giant tree with thousands of bats. When I saw it, all I could think about was that scene.

Same kind of revelation on Darth Vader's breathing. First time I went scuba diving, I was ready for the breathing underwater, because everyone says it's just amazing. No one told me it sounded like Darth Vader, and as it turns out, that's exactly what they recorded to do his voice.

The Star Wars making of is pretty cool and makes me miss Carrie Fisher even more. I'd like to read some of her books because her dry wit is amazing.

Silverado was hilarious IMHO. Really enjoyable and started the return to westerns in 80's.

Not many Westerns have as many developed characters as Silverado does. I liked it. Disappointed there wasn't a sequel.

Golden Globes nominations are out. I guess this is the best Hollywood has for us this year. Seems rather pedestrian and predictable, though I'll be rooting for Get Out - which for some weird reason didn't pick up a screenplay nomination.

The Eiger Sanction. An under-appreciated Clint Eastwood movie
