I watched "Once Upon A Time In The West" last night.

    It was ridiculously awesome.

    This is how I am.

I'm really not into depressing movies. I never saw "Million Dollar Baby" because even though I heard nothing but good things about it and have the utmost respect for Clint Eastwood as a filmmaker, I don't relish shelling out $8.50 for the urge to stick my head in an oven when I'm finished.

I saw "Schindler's List" in the theater and for me, it was a one-time-only thing. Incredible, powerful, fantastically made movie, but once was enough, thanks.

I understand movies can have a powerful message without a happy ending. I get that sometimes, that's the best way to make them. But I'm wired to not want depression in my escapism, thanks.

Saw in interview Henry Fonda did with the BBC, said he took the role and to prepare for the role he changed his look to be more menacing - Leone told him to shave - he wanted people to see what his character had done, then when Fonda's face appears on the screen to say "Holy shit - it's Henry Fonda!?"

"Midnight Cowboy," which I had on my Netflix queue forever but was unavailable until recently.

Fascinating film, tremendous filmmaking .... seems like a lot of today's indie movies took cues from the production here. Goes without saying that Voigt and Hoffman were out of this world good in the movie. The expression on Joe's face at the end told everything. Words would have killed that scene. One classic I always wanted to see. So glad I did.

I've got "Kidnapped" - a one-season wonder from Netflix going. It was an NBC show that got whacked early three or four years ago, and it's just as good as I remembered. Delroy Lindo, Dana Delaney, Mykelti Williamson, Jeremy Sisto, Ricky Jay, Linus Roache, Tim Hutton, Audra McDonald. Really good stuff.

    Just got back from Up.
It was the usual Pixar yummyness.
The first 20 minutes or so are actually pretty sad.
I thought that it was getting dusty in the theater either that or someone was cutting onions.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

You can give Iman feathers instead of hair and yellow eyes, and she's still stunning. So unfair!

    bon cop, bad cop.
fantastic little canadian film. guy goes off his rocker because canadian hockey teams are vanishing to U.S. owners, so he starts offing those he feels are responsible. first body found hanging on the border, so a quebec cop and a toronto cop get to work it together. really enjoyed it.

Is that what passes for porn in Canada?

    could be.

I did like it, though. you do have to pay attention, because there's a lot of french canadian/subtitles as the two leads go back and forth between provinces and even talking with each other.

    Watching "Unbreakable" right now.

Probably one of the only M. Night Shyamalan movies I actually enjoy.

The recent "Star Trek" movie is making me go back and Netflix all the previous ones (a long hard slog, in some cases). So I just saw "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" again for the first time in....a long-ass time.

It's probably the most Roddenberry of all the movies, for better or worse. It was almost like seeing a new movie. I'd only watched the thing once when I was a kid and hadn't really paid attention to it then. Not a great flick but it's fairly solid. Man, Stephen Collins turns up in some high-quality (or at least high-profile) shit. He's one of those actors who I feel like was just one big break away from being a really big star, but that break never quite came. It's surreal that with his body of work he'll probably be most remembered for that putrid 7th Heaven show.
