Deadpool 2. Liked it quite a bit more than the first. Also a big fan of the scene that used A-ha's unplugged version of Take on Me, which is terrific.

Also saw Deadpool 2 last night. Not bad. It's a fun time. These are great as standalone movies and do enjoy having Colossus around. Easter Eggs and jokes/puns were great. Might have enjoyed the first a bit more.

You may have seen this? Also really good profile of back up musicians. The Funk Brothers.

Solo has flopped stateside. (Relatively speaking, of course.) Probably some backlash related to Ron Howard directing, some so-so reviews, some backlash on The Last Jedi and perhaps some people blowing it off because, a few days before the movie opened, a few of the stars/filmmakers tried talking pansexuality. Who knows. I had no interest in seeing it. Saw The Last Jedi and Rogue One once.

My son, a big SW fan but who's locked into finals this week, says its because of those factors and pointed out that Solo came out only 6 mos after Last Jedi when the others had all come out in the winter (Force Awakens, Rogue One, Last Jedi) so fatigue has set in. Good point I thought.

Probably that. Plus, there's one Han Solo. It's Harrison Ford. Just like there's one Indiana Jones. Ford never won any Oscars, but he was invaluable as a movie star in three franchises and arguably the biggest star of the 80s.

Bingo. The clips I saw drove home for me that this new guy ain't the old guy. So, I'll pass.

Watched "Annihilation" this weekend; visually stunning; but the explanation at the end was not an explanation IMHO. (Maybe that was the point.)

Singles. Great soundtrack but I’d forgotten how much the plot focuses on Campbell Scott and Kyra Sedgwick, who are so meh. Btw, what the hell ever happened to Bridget Fonda? So damn cute back in the day.

Watched A Simple Plan last weekend and wondered the same thing. Wiki said she is retired.

Had no idea she was married to Danny Elfman, or that he was Oingo Boingo.

And with all due respect to Ford, who I think is underrated as an actor, the Solo character doesn’t have a whole lot of complexity. In the first Star Wars, he’s a wisecracking opportunist. I’m not particularly interested in how he became that way.

Over the course of the original trilogy, we do see more complexity to the character. We see that there is a decent man in there, but he has chosen a more selfish life. Also, he inspired tremendous loyalty in Chewbacca and that had to come from somewhere. Done well, there is an interesting story there. I've read that story. Unfortunately, Disney threw all that out when they ditched most of the old expanded universe.

I still haven't seen the movie and may not while it is in the theaters. It sounds like the problem wasn't so much the concept of a Han Solo origin story as it was the execution.
