OK, gratuitous plug here, but I went to a screening of "The Back Nine" -- a product of independent filmmaker (and Slamdance Film Festival founder) Jon Fitzgerald and Ron Vignone.

The movie (which I make a cameo in, BTW :D) is about Fitzgerald reaching 40 and realizing he's on the back nine of his life... without realizing one of his dreams -- to be a professional athlete. So he dives full-bore into golf: hiring a personal trainer, swing coach and mental coach.

It works; he goes from a 15 to a 4. But all the while he's doing this, he's balancing a wife, daughter (with baby on the way) and a job as he tries reconciling other personal issues in his life.

A nice documentary, one that's played at three film festivals already. It opens in 85 theaters around the country next Thursday, with a wider release in July.

    Good call.... ;)

Had no idea I'd be in it. Set the subject/director up with George Lopez, Chris O'Donnell and Meat Loaf, among others. Then, he asks me a question and I think nothing of it.

Fast-forward 16 months and I'm now the film's official publicist. I bring a DVD home one day, watch it... then almost fall out of my seat when I come on right after Meat Loaf.

I'm watching Slumdog Millionaire. Soooo very wonderful, even on my little tiny TV.

I liked Slumdog when it came out. Didn't think it was as great as some on here, but liked it.

I watched it on DVD and thought it was pretty mediocre. It doesn't hold up very well.

Watched In Bruges for the first time since last summer. A fantastic dark comedy with an original screenplay, beautiful cinematography and great pacing via the music. There's a lot of layers to it and each time I watch it I appreciate it even more.

Not a movie, but on a movie channel. Watched the second half of Dexter's second season. A lot more psychological than the second season. Lila is quite the delicious little firebird. I wonder what nemesis Dexter has in Season 3; Doakes was quite the compelling one.

For sure. There'll be a lot more buyers' remorse floating around that little number, as time goes on . . . most-emphatically NOT the best picture of the year . . . not even close.
