“Money for Nothing” came on and he says “that little fa**ot he’s a millionaire “ and it was jarring.

Is there a bigger named actor than Denzel Washington that has made more remakes? Did The Taking of Pelham 123 need a remake? The Manchurian Candidate was a near perfect film, even with Sinatra. The Bishop’s Wife with David Niven and Cary Grant was also a near perfect film.

The Manchurian Candidate was perfect with Sinatra and Lansbury.

Only story I know about the original: They shot a scene in which Sinatra was probably the best he’d ever been on camera. But the picture was out of focus, so the director wanted another shot. Sinatra said there was no way he could reach that level again, so they left it in, and it became an iconic scene in that film.

Denzel is in the discussion for GOAT status, even today when he’s getting long in the tooth.

150-second Amazon commercial may as well be a feature length movie.

I've seen or heard bits of this a thousand times it seems the last few weeks. Finally watched it.

Can't imagine it won't win whatever awards honor the best commercials.

The older lady was telling the younger girl to stop sitting on her bench.

The shut in snow woman is good, but Publix?

Nightmare Alley. Great performances. Beautifully shot. Refreshingly non-formulaic and different.

Went in not knowing a thing about it, and it was an enjoyable afternoon at the movies.

Coulda been 15 minutes shorter. Only minor issue.

I watched "Help!," the Beatles' second movie, which I'd seen years and years ago, but hasn't been widely available for streaming for quite some time -- the only place you can currently see it is as a rent or buy option on Apple TV.

Well, how do I put this ... it's not "bad," because for christ's sake it's the Beatles, and pretty much everybody agrees that "A Hard Day's Night" is much better... but compared to "AHDN," "Help!" is just b ... uhh, bbb ... uhhh, baaahh ...
ah fuck it. Compared to "Hard Day's Night," "Help!" Is just bad.

Why? Well, here's why. The "plot" of "Help!," involving a wacko Indian/Hindu cult deciding they want to get a magic ring off of Ringo's finger -- is just plain fucking stupid. Yeah yeah I know the plot of AHDN wasn't exactly Shakespearean drama either, but the plot of AHDN was simple, made some logical sense, and of course while there were slapstick comedy bits thrown in, they were witty, not witless.
"Help!" also trucked in mid-Sixties UK racist/paternalistic tropes about Asians and colonial islands.
It was interesting to see the seeds of George's infatuation with Indian music, it was fun to see the Beatles fuck around on the ski slopes -- from all appearances, none of them could ski worth a shit -- and there are a couple of good early performance videos, but overall it's a huge huge comedown from "AHDN," and it's not too surprising they never got around to doing a third feature film.

    "The Sound of Music," again.

And I loved it again. It's still enchanting, and still one of the best movies ever, even with all the deleted scenes to make room for the commercial segments, literally, every 10 minutes over the four-hour run-time.

That was the price for watching an un-DVR-ed movie for the first time in a long time.

One of my favorites. Do you recall if the out-of-focus scene was during the fight with Henry Silva? Or, perhaps, on the train with Janet Leigh.

Vince Vaughn was pretty funny in Four Christmases.

It’s been 30 years or more since I saw it, so I don’t recall. I need to find it and watch it again.

It is what we thought it was, and that’s a good thing.

The last 30 minutes are very good. It is cool that my eighth grade daughter and I are sharing the song I listen to when I was a junior in high school.
