Transformers: Age of Extinction — This movie is unwatchable garbage.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse Of Madness — I feel bad for anyone who didn’t see WandaVision and tried to watch this movie.

My almost 11-year-old watched the new Doctor Strange when it showed up on Disney+. I was kind of worried it would be a bit too freaky or wacky for him, but he really liked it. What he didn't like was Wanda's treatment. It dawned on me then that he hadn't seen WandaVision. We kind of filled him in on the situation and that cleared it up. Not sure why I didn't think of that beforehand.

Saw Ambulance, the movie he just directed with Jake Gyllenhaal (the one about two brothers getting involved in a botched bank heist where they - surprisingly - have to hijack an ambulance.) It's a movie where Michael Bay realizes it's not 2017 anymore and he has to stop being Michael Bay if he wants to direct big-budget flicks ever again.

So, it's really competently made and mildly entertaining, with Bay only falling off the wagon towards the end.

Took the fam to see Elvis last night, and we all enjoyed it. It is 2.5 hours long, but it didn't seem that long. There was a scene at the end with Elvis at the piano, and it was just sad. My dad - RIP - got me into Elvis when I was a kid, so the movie brought back good memories of him, and I got a bit teary-eyed.

    Hard pass on Clerks III.

Clerks is one of my all-time favorite movies, and is quite possibly THE quintessential Gen-X movie.

    Clerks II sucked on ice.

I think the problem is Kevin Smith is just not a good filmmaker. His early stuff was charming in its ineptitude/amateurishness, but he faltered bigly once more was expected of him. His shtick just doesn’t work as well when it’s more polished.

You just have to go into the movie theater ready to have a whole lot of sex jokes, obscure pop culture references and gross-out gags thrown at you. Some will hit the target (like most of “Dogma”) and some won’t (most of “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”).

The gross-out bit at the end of “Zach and Miri” remains the most up-for-grabs I’ve ever seen a movie theater get. And that includes attending a showing of “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

Finally had time to catch Top Gun Maverick last night. It was fun. That's all I wanted from it. And Jennifer Connolly still brings it. But booo for not using Berlin's Take My Breath Away at some point...
