Misery. Great performance by Bates, and a damn good one from Caan.

Haunting in Venice. Whole lot of meh.

Kenneth Branagh put in a half hearted effort. Tina Fay was not great.
    The story felt rushed.
I was starting to nod off when I realized they were at the big reveal.

It just didn’t have the fun of Murder on the Orient or Death On The Nile.

I'm on a bit of a Mamet kick (great writer, lousy politics), and parsing through past films, found "The Spanish Prisoner."

So, so fun. Hitchcockian. Steve Martin is great in it. Gets a recommendation from me.

Please explain The Spanish Prisoner. And then answer how The Heist isn't just a bunch of plot twists masquerading as a semblance of a compelling story.

Mamet's movies are AWFUL. He is cheap and manipulative.

Bonus question: How do you know who the lead female is in a Mamet movie?

Watched it with my wife and mother-in-law. It was a bit long, but that was pretty much our take as well.

Father of the Bride, the Andy Garcia version. A perfectly predictable and thoroughly enjoyable romcom. Plus, it featured Mrs. W’s favorite hotel.

The French Connection. Legendary car chase still holds up. Main character is a prototypical 70s antihero...a racist who doesn't blink when he accidentally kills a colleague. Hackman has been better in later roles, despite his first Oscar here. Plus, it has Roy Scheider!

    “What’s good?”

    “It’s all good.”

    “What did you have?”

    “I had the venison.”

    “Then we’ll have the venison.”

    Pointless exchange. Loved it.

Didn't he do "House of Games" too? Loved that one.
