Just watched The Hammer with Adam Carolla. Not a terrible flick, especially good if you like Carolla's type of humor.

Glad I watched it. Probably never will again though. Kind of a one-and-done deal.

Definitely, Maybe isn't so bad. Has its moments. I've liked Ryan Reynolds in pretty much everything he'd done.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I'm going to flog it here, again, because there's been nothing else like it, ever,
it's very New York, and it plays as well now as it did 50+ years ago.

Sweet Smell of Success. Lancaster and Curtis. Lancaster plays a Winchell knock-off, a savage sonofabitch.
The inherent dynamics are instantly recognizable, and play as well now, as they did, then.

The perfect '50s "media" double feature is SSOS, and A Face In The Crowd . . . screw Mayberry . . .
Andy Griffith's a great, great actor, when he wants to be. And Pat Neal's always wonderful.

    Netflix is your friend.

What I DID juet get from Netflix, never having seen it:

Ionesco's Rhinoceros, starring The Producers' duo, Mostel and Wilder.

The righties will hate it. Doesn't diminish it.

    The Long Goodbye.

Really awesome, obviously influenced both Fletch and The Big Lebowski (there's even an "error of Shabbos" line).

Altman, during his peak period . . . Gould, a regular Altman participant during those years, fit the role perfectly. Lebowski's an extended love letter to Raymond Chandler.
It's heartening that it's become a cult classic.

  7. Saw Up last night at the $4 movie house with the girlfriend. Thought it was funny and touching.

I got into a heavy "New Hollywood" rotation on Netflix, Altman, Hal Ashby, Cimino, some really interesting stuff came out in the 70s. Even found Heaven's Gate was decent, though extremely too long. The opening "prologue" is ridiculous.

The Hammer is about 10 times better than you'd think it would be.

Just finished Watchmen finally, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Very happy I talked the wife into seeing that.

That's one I wanna see, though it looked to me like it could be really good or really bad.

Can't go wrong with Heigl, though.
