As a fan of the novels of Richard Price, I have read Freedomland. Last night I saw the film, which was not good.

I watched The Ruins a few nights ago. I read the book when it first came out and thought it was a solid read. I was iffy about seeing the movie because I figured they'd completely screw it up. The bad press didn't change my mind about not wanting to see it. Well, I was scrolling through the list of free movies available on FiOS On Demand and there it was. So I watched it. It wasn't that bad. I was expecting something far worse. It wasn't as brutal as the book and they did change the ending up some. But I didn't feel like I had wasted 90 minutes of my life.

Jay Mohr is an underrated actor.

Different strokes. I've usually found myself on the other side of Michael Eisner's
likes and dislikes. Nothing different, here. He looooooves Mohr. Not for me.

I loved this movie quite a bit too. It was a random video-store pickup that just caught my eye, but it turned out to be much better than I thought.

Watched Beowulf last night and was pleasantly surprised that it didn't totally suck.

Crossing Over - Holy shit. This is the most unintentionally hilarious film of the decade. I'd compare it to Crash, only it's way shittier.

A few examples of its spectacular comedy:

Harrison Ford's character (some ICE agent) is at a party for his Iranian co-worker's father who is on the verge of becoming a naturalized citizen. The hot mess of a daughter walks into the party and Ford just drops everything to go talk to her (she's actually on a patio playing with some kids when this happens). It's so damn awkward and makes no fucking sense. Of course she is killed a day later because she dishonored the family by causing Ford to walk out of the party after he talked to her.

Toward the end, Ford's Iranian co-worker is drunk off his ass after sitting in the bar for hours pounding shots. He gets in a car and proceeds to drive to the liquor store. Liquor store is just about to be robbed by a Korean gang (one of the members is involved in another story arc). Stumbling around the store just moments before, the Iranian immediately becomes alert and guns down four of the robbers like Bruce Willis in Die Hard. He then lets the fifth suspect go and tells him to take the security tapes with him (he feels sorry for him). The store owner tells the cops he let a guy go, but the cops dismiss her after a sympathetic store goer backs up the Iranian's tale.

There's also some crazy sex stuff with Ray Liotta and a hot Aussie actress. But I won't spoil that. :p

Kiddie movie dep't ... the only kind I see in the theater anymore:

G-Force. Not as bad as you'd think, considering the premise involves talking guinea pigs. The Tracey Morgan-voiced guinea pig steals the show.

Overall, a good movie for the under-10 crowd, with a few jokes mixed in for the adults to laugh at.

    Let the Right One In.

A Swedish vampire love story between two 12-year-olds. It's awesome. Check it out if you can find it.
I would watch this 100 times before watching Twilight again. If Netflix has it, add it to your queue.

  11. A friend of mine just turned me onto this. He read the book.
