"It Might Get Loud." Well worth it if you're a fan of any combination of Jimmy Page, The Edge or Jack White. (I'm a fan of the first two.)

    "permanent midnight" ...

ben stiller plays a smack junkie with a hollywood writing habit in this little piece of unknown cinema. he does a solid job, although with better directing he could've been great.

some fantastic lines get lost in the mix, and there aren't enough scenes in which stiller is high as a satellite and sweating waterfalls while banging the typewriter keys at a feverish pace.

owen wilson is so-so as stiller's buddy. maria bello is pretty good as stiller's anonymous motel lover. elizabeth hurley was yawney as stiller's fraudulent wife (trying to get a green card).

worth a viewing, but it won't blow you away.

    2.75 stars.

    running with scissors ...

saw it a year ago but kind of forgot what happens. pretty good flick based on augusten burroughs' memoirs. lots of strong performances, from joseph cross playing augusten burroughs to annette bening playing his mom, to evan rachel wood and gwyneth paltrow playing the catty sisters ... but jill clayburgh kind of stole every scene she was in.

    3.25 stars.

In our town's free community paper there's a review for "World's Greatest Dad," which is directed by Bobcat Goldthwaite and stars Robin Williams. I haven't heard anything about it till now. The reviewer said it's the season's best film and gave it 4.5 stars out of 5. He said Williams finally gives a performance that isn't shlocky and elicits a lot of laughs without doing any of his silly voices or anything. Although, he sort of dissed "One Hour Photo" and "What Dreams May Come," both of which I really liked.

    Seems intriguing.

Anyone here heard anything about it?

  5. Just watched Desperado the other night on HBO. Salma in that tight dress with the buttons, and then Salma out of said dress, oh snap.

I saw Williams on Conan a couple of weeks ago and it seemed like he really enjoyed making this film. They showed a clip of it and it seems like a funny movie on its own, without all the typical crutches he usually uses to get his laughs.

Of course, i loved RV and License to wed, so maybe i'm just a fanboi.

License to Wed is one of the worst movies I've seen in the last few years.

Robin Williams is absolutely insufferable. I'm glad more people are starting to get that.

He's insufferable about 75 percent of the time and brilliant the other 25 percent. Those percentages were probably reversed about a decade ago.

I liked 'Moscow on the Hudson,' despite his heavy-handed emoting.
'The Fisher King' is one of my favorite movies, again despite his ham-fisted approach.
'Good Will hunting' was alright. I didn't dislike it, but I never really got the hype.
Right now I'm hard-pressed to think of any other Robin Williams movies I've liked.

I'll look up the list at IMDB.

Addendum: I forgot about 'The Night Listener,' which was brilliant.

Saw Sunshine Cleaning the other night. Amy Adams again shows she doesn't have enough chops to carry a movie. Alan Arkin was basically the same character he was in Little Miss Sunshine, only not a druggie and not as prominent. Basically a small movie marketed bigger.
