Friday was a good night. I watched the new "Trailer Park Boys" movie at the local theatre, got home in time for the last hour of "Field of Dreams" on AMC, then caught "Back to School" on a station out in British Columbia.

"Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day" was pretty good. There were a few laugh-out-loud moments, particularly during the car chase that literally turned into a pissing contest. Not the kind of thing that can adequately be described.......you'll have to see it to understand.

Capitalism: A Love Story - A greatest hits of Moore's material if you will. Some of the stuff in the first hour was very, very funny. He sort of lost some steam in explaining the financial mess, but the lost FDR speech was a nice capper. My theater erupted in applause afterward, which I can honestly say I've never experienced in a multiplex before. I didn't think it was that good, but perhaps he struck a nerve with those that weren't really familiar with the scheming going on.

Duplicity and Brothers Bloom - both were "caper" films. While I have enjoyed the work of the directors of each (Tony Gilroy and Rian Johnson) by the end of both films and too many twists and turns to count, I was left with a feeling of "so what?" Brothers Bloom is really kind of odd in that it has the feel of the movie set in the 1920s or 30s and yet you've got Lambourghinis and cell phones.
Notes on a Scandal was good, but none of the characters are particularly likable. Revolutionary Road is okay, but its no Mad Men.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine ... When I first heard about it, I was excited for this movie, then saw the trailers and wasn't so excited. Read the reviews and got even less excited. But after finally seeing it, it was much better than I expected. Not a great movie by any stretch, but it was entertaining enough.

My biggest gripe probably was that I didn't need to see Wolverine and Sabretooth start all three fights with each other the same way (low angle, one of them standing deep in the frame, the hand of the other in the foreground with nails or claws growing, followed by the two of them running at each other yelling). Should have done it once and then found new ways for them to start fighting each other.

Go see "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs"!!

Sure, it's only a kids movie, but it's got tons of funny stuff for adults to enjoy -- all the way to the closing credits (which are a clear tribute to the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" movie).

Besides lots of funny lines and cool cameo voices throughout the movie (including Mr. T!), my favorite part was seeing the animators intentionally re-create some of the drawings from the classic 1970s book.

Oh, and there's even a joke involving SportsJournalists.com favorite Keyboard Cat ...

Weather nerds of the world (I'm part of this group), this movie is for you.

We just watched that last week. I didn't care for it.
With the exception of 'All the President's Men,' newspaper movies always disappointment me.

Just watched "In Bruges." Awesome. Highly recommend. Dark, dark comedy entwined with some nefarious shit. Particularly liked Collin Ferrell punching an American (we assume) and uttering "That's for John Lennon, you fucking yankee c*nt!"

EDIT: JUst noticed that the system changed "c*nt" (spelled out) to "pussycat". ::)

    The Inside Man.

    It was OK.

When I watch Clive Owen, I want to see his face when he talks, not hear him talk with a sock covering 75 percent of his face.

Jodie Foster was so-so but had a nice scene or two.

And Denzel was just one more tangent of Sidney Poitier. I'll watch Denzel, and it's not that he's not talented, but most times it just seems like I'm watching the Y2K version of Poitier.

Away We Go. Starring John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. Directed by Sam Mendes.

First 30 minutes of it was great, thanks mostly to Catherine O'Hara's cameo, but after that it went down hill.

I was actually disappointed by All the President's Men. The ending seemed very abrupt and I was disappointed after reading the book.

Absence of Malice is one of just a few newspaper movies I've liked.

State of Play was very good though...
