Maybe I'm just gullable, but I quite enjoyed it. Was better than I expected. i do understand where the above posted column is coming from, but I still enjoyed it.
I thought Sandra Bullock was a bit over the top, but still not a bad job, definitely not oscar worthy as some of the buzz I've heard.

Watching Gladiator right now for the umpteenth time. Man, this movie never gets old.

As for Avatar, I see where you're coming from Mizzou. But given Jim Cameron's track record, and the fact that he waited 12 years after the unprecedented success of Titanic to make a movie and this is it, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

We can only hope, since Titanic had no right on God's earth to be named Best Picture, and Cameron, previously insufferable, devolved into infinitely worse, subsequently.

    Crash. And. Burn.

I think Avatar looks great, can't wait. ....
Last night watched Monsters vs. Aliens and Anvil: The Story of Anvil.
Monsters was alright, but lately all my animation movies are being lined up against Up, which was the best movie I've seen this year.
Anvil was good, depressing, funny, sad. It played like a real-life Christopher Guest movie. I recommend it.

OK, I'm ready for the abuse from SportsJournalists.com ...

    New Moon.

Fellas, you know how it is. Sometimes you get dragged along to your lady's movie. Although I must admit, as far as chick flicks go, these aren't without their moments.

At least Twilight and New Moon have Kristen Stewart in them (although you don't get to see "enough" of her. Instead, you get a bunch of shirtless wolf boys. And a vampire with a glittering torso :p)

In a nutshell: The first movie was better than New Moon. Twilight had more "Olympic Peninsula" scenery (I realize it wasn't filmed there), had more action, and much less whining and moping by Bella. And the ending of New Moon is abrupt, lame, and a blatant set-ups for movie No. 3.

    "Shirtless wolf boys"?

    My back.

And Tom Cruise isn't part and parcel of this drool? What an upset.

The only reason to see New Moon is the shirtless wolf boys.

Avatar is to 2009 as Final Fantasy: Spirits Within was to 2001.

Final Fantasy was terrible and made about a quarter of its budget. I'm not setting my bar very high for Avatar. More excited about the "other" Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Yeah, I have to agree with that. The point that "When has Cameron made a bad movie?" is a good one. I thought Titanic was going to suck, and while it is cheesy as hell, it's also the highest grossing film of all-time, which is even more impressive considering it's about twice as long as most films.

I actually saw Titanic twice the first day it came out. They had a special screening for newspaper employees at midnight and I went and then my girlfriend called and said, "Don't you dare see Titanic without me." So I had to endure seven hours of it in the first 24 hours it was released.
