First 40 minutes was very good, indeed. Then the love story kicked in ...

Knocked Up was the same way. Matter of fact, a lot of "comedies" are like that.

I tried watching Wedding Crashers about a month ago on a small, crappy DVD player with a small screen. It crapped out with may 30 minutes to go. Just one question: Does Owen Wilson finally beat the shit out of Rachel McAdams' asshole brother? Does anyone?

She was 15, according to IMDB. She was born in 1970 and the movie was released in 1985. So it's possible she was 14 during the making of the film.

Went and watched "The Road" today with Viggo Mortenson. Really, really good adaptation of a Cormac McCarthy novel, and if you're a fan at all of the video game Fallout 3, you'll sit there thinking about raiders and slavers in the Capital Wasteland all day long.

I really think Mortenson is one of the more underrated actors out there. He was outstanding in Eastern Promises and if it's not for him, Appaloosa might have been the worst movie ever.

SPOILER ALERT for those who haven't seen it:

I really enjoyed the ending. The whole movie was a mental battle between Viggo and his son. The young boy still wants to find good in the world and he views everything with wild-eyed optimism. The father is understandably wary of everyone and everything they meet on the apocalyptic road. He trusts no one, and the boy is open to trusting to a fault. At the end, after the father dies and the boy is trying to make the choice that will dictate the rest of his life, you could just see the gathered lessons from the father going through the son's mind as he decides whether to trust his instincts. Tense movie throughout with very few dead spots, and an excellent cameo from Robert Duvall to boot. For as deep and depressing as the movie was, I left the theater with a sense of hope for the human spirit, as the boy proved even in the darkest of times that people can work together as a society to make things better for one another.

My only quibble was trying to figure out what exactly the apocalyptic event was that sent the world into darkness. Perhaps I should read the book to find out. :D

Watched "Love Actually" on Christmas Eve while making four Santa's sleighs out of Ginger Bread. Building that stuff is frustrating. Icing everywhere.

I did love the photo montage at the end of The Hangover. My son said, "This will make the movie for you."

It was fun but the dang icing took forever to take hold. Next year, I'm building a house.

The guy who keeps beating the shit out of Owen Wilson, first during the football game and then when he kicks his ass outside of the house. The alpha brother.
