By all means, read the book ... the writing is gorgeous. However, the book never spells out what the event was. It doesn't really matter though, IMO.

Harry Potter 3. It's the movie that deviates the most from the book, and it's by far my favorite movie. Weird how that works.

By the way guys, it's Inglourious Basterds.

Really enjoyed that movie. The opening scene, which seemed to plod halfway through the first viewing, turned out to be an amazingly well written and developed opening.

Christoph Waltz really brought an excellent character to life.

The niece got Up for Christmas so we watched that. I don't know how those Pixar guys do it, but they knock them out of the park every time. Don't know how they come up with their stories, but their shot selection is great, the humor works on multiple levels and even though its animated I became more emotionally attached to these characters than pretty much any movie I've seen in the last few years. Amazing stuff. Just saying all Pixar movies are great almost short-changes HOW good they are.

I was going to post this but you beat me to it. I always presumed it was a nuclear war, and they're sort of in Mad Max territory now. Book is better than movie, as usual, but the movie is cinematically engrossing. Having just been on the South Carolina beach yesterday, it was weird to look at it and think it was where they ended up in the movie (or at least that's what most think).

Just finished Joyeux Noel. A very good film centering around the 1914 Christmas Truce. Interesting that Diane Kroger and Daniel Bruhl are in that and Inglourious Basterds.
