    Shutter Island.

Wasn't impressed. Watched it late last night at the insistence of a friend who said it would "blow my mind." My mind, however, was not blown.

May see Iron Man 2 today with the kiddos.

Iron Man 2- Not bad, but not great. But this is coming from someone, which, behind Spider-Man, Iron Man was his second favorite comic.

In your opinion did they do War Machine justice, cause I know that was a worrisome part for you.

Just came back from the new Nightmare on Elm Street, was decent. My wife and little sisters (10 years old) loved it. I'm not a big fan of horror, so it was ok. Did a much better job of being legitimate scary with just a little of startle and not relying on starting you with jumps and loud noises too much.

Step Brothers. Will watch it again tonight, I think.

Saw Iron Man 2 last night. Plenty of stuff getting blown up, but it wasn't as good as the first one, which should come as a surprise to no one. $50 million on the first day says the marketing was effective.

Iron Man 2 last night and The Ghost Writer today. Two very different movies but really liked both. Only problem with Ghost Writer was they spoiled it with a nonsensical ending.

    Land of the Lost.

Worst movie ever? It's in the running.

I liked it too; surprised more people didn't. I had the same reaction to Men Who Stare at Goats, everyone hated it but me and this one other guy I know.

I liked Men Who Stare at goats except for the last 10 seconds.
Meanwhile, I hated Sherlock Holmes. It's was neat action and wonderful dialog. However, the time between the bursts of those things drug on like no other. They could have cut that movie down an hour and it would have been pretty excellent.

    Saw Iron Man 2.

    Meh.

Scarlett Johansson was awesome, Mickey Rourke was bad-ass but, overall, it felt like this movie was missing something.

    Oh, that's right.

    Tension.

I never felt like there was anything actually on the line in this movie. Stark never felt like he was in trouble even with (Plot point A) going on.

Did like all the references to the upcoming Avengers movie but, pound-for-pound, this one fell flat for me.

    6/10

    Some spoilers ahead ....

Saw Nightmare on Elm Street today. It's been so long since I saw the original that I don't even remember the finer points of it, but this remake wasn't terrible. Not great, but not terrible. Maybe a solid two-star movie.
Jackie Earle Haley was a damned creepy Freddy Krueger. Although the make-up effects weren't as good as the original franchise, I thought they did a good job of balancing the Freddy one-liners with the scares.
Freddy came across as someone who wasn't doing these horrible things just because it's what he did (which is what the original run turned into) but because he genuinely ENJOYED doing them. He was having fun -- not in the campy way of original NOES, but more in a getting his rocks off way. That's scary stuff. There's enough gore to satisfy the teens, but it's also working on a psychological angle too. There's plenty of mindfucks and false scares throughout.
There were also a couple of places where, to the director's credit, they didn't go overboard with the gore. There's a part where he kills a kid in a dream and then taunts him by saying he's got six more minutes to "play" -- because although the kid's heart stopped beating, the brain lives on a while longer (ostensibly in a dream state). But they don't show what Freddy did after that. I can't help but think some directors *cough*Rob Zombie*cough* would have shown all six minutes and had Freddy anally raping the kid with his glove. It's much scarier thinking about what happened there, especially when you consider the kid's body would show the effects.

Again, not the best movie ever. But not nearly as bad as I feared it might be. If you like horror movies I'd say it's worth a look-see.
