I wholeheartedy disagree, Batman (well, maybe halfheartedly, since you only give it two stars). I thought it was among the most pointless movies ever made. It's not an attempt to advance the story. It's not a straight remake. It's, "What if we made a movie with the basic story of the original, but much, much worse?"

They took the original and sucked all the suspense and creative effect out of it. There's just no reason (beyond the obvious answer: people will make money off it) for that movie to exist. It's at 15 percent at rotten tomatoes, but I went anyway out of nostalgia. I suck for contributing to the box office.

Not entirely disagreeing, AB. Every time they remake something from the 80s I feel like part of my childhood is being raped. I'd have been perfectly fine if this movie had never been done. My life won't be shattered if I never see it again on cable in a couple years.
That said, I didn't think it was that bad. Not as good as the Halloween remake, not as bad as the Friday the 13th remake. To each their own, I suppose.

Given the current crop of talent, the idea of Arthur being remade is
beyond grotesque . . . just one example of zillions.

And the idiots are going to do it.

Anybody who has actually watched "Arthur" recently enough to remember it, and thinks it can be remade, should be drummed out of the business. It's just as perfect today as it was the day it came out. It was lightning in a bottle. I think Russell Brand is a talented guy, but the idea that you could even come close to recreating that film is absurd.

I guess one upside to these remakes is that it might drive younger people to seek out the original. If a few people who have never seen "Arthur" see it now because of the attention, some good has been done.

I saw "Scoop" on DVD this weekend. Not spectacular, but certainly entertaining.

And it has Scarlett Johansson in it. Enough said! :)

"Did You Hear About the Morgans?" ... pedestrian and predictable fish-out-of-water rom-com vehicle the likes of which Sarah Jessica Parker tends to star in every two years or so.

The only redeeming thing about the whole movie was the decision to use Stevie Wonder's kick-ass version of "We Can Work It Out" over the closing credits.

    "Downfall."

And for more than just the five minutes that everyone has seen of this movie.

A window into the brutally dark soul of the last days of Nazism. Most of the main characters kill themselves (or in the case of the Goebbelses, all six of their kids), movie is paced rather slowly.

A 7 out of 10 for me, but I've never felt so guilty to think the lead actress (Alexandra Maria Lara, who does not kill herself and is portrayed as naively as Hitler's personal secretary can be portrayed) was hot in any movie I've ever seen.

Finally got around to seeing The Blind Side and, while it was good, it's clear to me that Sandra Bullock won a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year's Oscars.

She was good, don't get me wrong, but Academy Award good?

Isn't the first job of any actress to make you believe they're who they're portraying? For me, her accent was terrible and kind of distracting.

Love her though. She's probably my favorite actress today.

Guess the Academy was just atoning for slighting her by not giving her the award when she starred in Speed 2: Cruise Control.

Last House on the Left (remake) - Torture porn. Truly disgusting on every level.

As was the original, really. Critics act like the torture porn thing is something that just cropped up, but it goes way back.

    Iron Man 2.

I gotta say, I rather enjoyed it. I went in with lowered expectations — how can it be as good or better than IM1? — so maybe that's why I left feeling good about it.

Was it as good as 1? No, but it was pretty damned good. Good Stark snark. Decent action. Okay story lines. Good summer popcorn flick.
