Last movie you watched......

  1. A few additions for me.

I enjoyed Iron Man 2 for what it was. Not as good as the first, in my opinion but I enjoyed it. In some ways, wish I was a comic book geek so the time spent setting up other movies was more entertaining for me. I thought it bogged down a little bit with the Nick Fury stuff.

I thought Robin Hood was just OK. It was clearly done with the intent to make it a franchise so the first hour was a bit slow setting up the origin of it all. Not bad, not great, just OK.

As for rentals, the GF wanted to see Couples Retreat so we did. Saw it, actually chuckled a little. I agree with the earlier poster that it wasn't as awful as I thought it'd be. I've already done some pre-empting so I don't ever have to watch Valentine's Day, though.

For my choice, I went for a wow me Blu Ray and got 2012. What an awful, awful movie. It looked awesome on my TV but I was stunned at how long and ridiculous it was.

I love that flick. Not that it's great or awesome, but as a newspaper guy, it's a fun movie. I watch it atleast once a month.

I saw Iron Man 2 with my son tonight. He's 25. He liked it a way lot more than me, in that he'd give it an A-plus, and I gave it a B-plus, but I am an original Marvel comics geek. I remember Iron Man before he had the red in his suit. That's the narrow line the Marvel movies have to walk. They have a built-in audience of loonies like me who are all too ready to go on the Internet and denounce them as sellouts, but at the same time, they'd like to make some money.
Robert Downey, Jr. (Fuck, anybody here old enough to remember Putney Swope, by Robert Downey Sr.?) was excellent. It'd be a good Wesleyan (my alma mater) film department thesis, which big stars are good at superhero movies and which aren't (Ben Affleck, cough, cough).

[Rec] ... the original Spanish horror that was remade into "Quarantine" stateside. Never saw the latter, because I heard it was awful. But Rec is fantastic. Quick, gory and satisfying. Subtitled, FYI.

And just finished up "Moon" with Sam Rockwell. Fascinating.

Saw "Precious" with wifey. Simply wow. Tough subjects, tough life. The lead was truly outstanding/phenomenal. Loved her.

Then went retro with the kids on Sat. night, "War Games." Ally Sheedy used to be pretty sweet. Funny watching them get a dial up connection and then use MS-DOS prompts.

I had a serious crush on Ally Sheedy back in the day.

Watched My Cousin Vinny the other night for the umpteenth time. Still solid. I think Marisa Tomei is hotter now, but she was pretty freakin' hot back then.

Judge: You two know each other?
Vinny: Yes, Judge. She's my fiance'
Judge: Well that certainly explains the hostility ...

With the United States team en route to South Africa, I watched "Sixty-Six," about what happens when an unappreciated English boy's bar mitzvah is scheduled for the same day as the 1966 World Cup final between England and West Germany.

The Messenger - Man, what an uninspired script and uninspired acting from everyone except Woody Harrelson. This could have gone somewhere in competent hands.

Megan Fox, really? I guess if you want some eye candy, but she is about as far away from Lisbeth as I can imagine. Lisbeth was a 90 lbs, 4-foot-waif. I also can't see Megan Fox pulling off "damaged," which is what the role would require. Carey Mulligan looks the part, although I know nothing about her. I could see Kiera Knightly in the role. Maybe Natalie Portman.

Saw "Iron Man 2" Saturday morning. Scarlett Johansson has to be one of the hottest women on Earth.
