My neighbor and I watched "An Education" last night.

It's a British film about a high school girl who has to make a lot of serious decisions thanks to a significantly older boyfriend. There are quite a few twists and turns -- some predictable, some totally out of the blue -- and we really enjoyed it.

I thought I read that Johansson and Pitt were going to star and Fincher was going to direct.

    I won't ever doubt Fincher.

Scarlett won't be able to pull it off. Nowhere close to having the chops and her boobs are too big.

I ashamed to admit it but I watched "Six Pack" with Kenny Rogers and Erin Gray and I was surprised to see a young Diane Lane. Man, Erin Gray was hot back then. She might still be hot now, who knows.

Working at home this afternoon with the TV on, and an old coming-of-age flick was on. "Miracle Mile" — kid wants to beat the area stud in the one-mile, and trains. It's set in the Vietnam era, so of course there's the friend who goes off to war and is killed. Decent movie, though.

Bonus points: Cast includes a young Dennis Quaid and Jan Smithers.

    Mmmmmmmmm. Jan Smithers.

I would never doubt Fincher, but that's bad casting. Daniel Craig is in talks to play the lead. Carey Mulligan from An Education is considered a favorite to play Lisbeth. I think she would be fantastic.

I watched the original today, couldn't wait for the American one. It was good, the book was better of course. The actress who played Lisbeth did a good job. I like how they streamlined the plot a bit and made cuts from the book.

Shutter Island - okay. I'd much rather read the book.

I Love You, Beth Cooper - sucked. But I'd much rather read the book.

Kind of a cheesy, jingoistic flick... but, man, there are a TON of great insults in that dialogue.

It's not his fault, I guess, but he's been involved in a couple of movies that just destroyed the source material: "Wild Wild West," surely one of the worst movies ever made, and "I Robot," which was pretty good but didn't have a damned thing to do, really, with "I Robot."

I have liked him in a lot of other stuff, including "I Am Legend." Which, again, wandered off from the original story if memory serves.

Hey guys, just a quick question.

Now, I don't want to be spoiled (though, in a way I guess I will be by asking this) but I'm about half way through "The Road" with Viggo Mortison (sp*) and this movie is sad and depressing as shit.

I'm exhausted and want to go to sleep so my question is this. Is this the type of movie that has some pay off at the end or is it basically going to be two hours of what I've already seen?

I'm not the type of guy that needs a happy or bullshit ending but if this is going to be another 90 minutes of sad, moping around mess I'd like to know so that when I get around to finishing it at some point, I know what to expect.

    Thanks.
