I thought they did a great job streamlining the movie. They cut some fat from the book and I didn't miss any of it.

The DVD has just been released, I believe.

  3. I just started the second book.
Not sure I want to see the movie. Not a fan of subtitles.

I finally saw Hot Tub Time Machine. Some good parts, but not great.

Finally watched 'Shutter Island' last night.
Some terrific shots. Very moody and well made.
The plot/premise of the movie was infuriating. We could see it from the beginning of the movie, and I just got angrier as the movie went along.
    I hate that plot devise.

I've had Shutter Island sitting on my counter for 10 days now. I think I'll probably wind up seeing Inception before my wife and I have enough time to sit down and watch Shutter Island.

Weird thing: The trailers I've seen for 'Inception' (which looks good) include a deep horn sound effect/music.
'Shutter Island' (the movie, I can't recall the trailer) has the same.
Not so weird that the music for two movies would include the same instrumentation, but strange that two movies within a year of each other and with the same lead actor would include such similar music/instrumentation.

In that case, it's completely true to the book.

'Twilight' . Sort of a last minute decision to watch it. Roommates and lady friend were about it and well, minus some cheesy parts, I didn't hate it. Well, I couldn't hate anything more tonight after what happened with the Cavs and LeBron.

I've never read the book. I don't know if I read a book that uses that plot device.
In screenplays, that plot device usually makes me angry.
In this case, it's a wonderfully shot, well crafted movie with a good performance by DiCaprio (maybe a little overboard), but I couldn't enjoy it.

Saw Solitary Man. If nothing else, it makes clear that if you think your time left is limited, partying your ass off may not be the best default option. Something felt a little stock about the performances; if Michael Douglas' performance was better, the film would have been released during Oscar season. Sarandon was particularly a non-entity. Jenna Fischer did stand out as a picture of co-dependence, and the gal playing the anomie-soaked teen who really kicked Douglas' downward spiral into high gear was a hoot
