Michael Mann makes a certain kind of film. While I much admired Public Enemies, I recognize why some viewers did not.

It falls short of "masterpiece," but it is very, very good IMO.

And Daniel Craig is up for the lead. I think Fincher is smarter than casting Pitt, Clooney, etc., or ScarJo. Casting like that would ruin the movie for me.

"Despicable Me." Not nearly as good as TS3, but still very entertaining.

This is an awful summer for movies (at least so far).

Just watched 'Public Enemies' last night.
    Not a good movie.

Did he rob banks because that's where the money was? :)

I guess at times I just watch a movie to watch a movie. I was home sick and had nothing else to do.

Saw "Despicable Me" and "Predators" today in a double feature. I liked them both. Obviously, there were lots of kids watching "Despicable Me" they loved it and I really liked at the end when they all clapped. That made me smile.

I may be the last person on planet Earth to watch "Avatar." Made me feel a little, um, blue.

Slumdog Millionaire ... fairly implausible, but I still really enjoyed it.

  10. How 'bout Hilary Swank? Or Dakota Fanning?

Also watched "Sugar", an HBO film about a Dominican baseball player trying to make it in the minor leagues. Thought it was very well-done, as most HBO original films are.

Swank would be interesting. Not that it matters in Hollywood, but Dakota Fanning is 16 years old. That'd be a tough sell for her to play Lisbeth Salander.

I watched the Swedish version over the weekend, and though I generally hate subtitles, I thought it was very well done. It was certainly unflinching with the rape scenes. The did a great job of trimming it down without losing any key plot points. I just read the book last week, so a lot of it was still fresh in my mind, and I thought it stayed p retty true to the book.

Also watched Green Zone over the weekend. I think I'd have liked it better if someone other than Matt Damon played the lead. Kept waiting for him to break out the Jason Bourne fighting moves, and that became a distraction.
