Sure was. Pretty much isolated himself from the rest of the cast, except during shooting. Gritted it out. Not in good shape, at all.

It had to have been tough for him as well filming the scene where he talks about his son's drug problems, considering what's happened to his own kid in real life. Really liked the movie, though I thought the last 15 minutes or so dragged everything out a bit much.
Saw The Town last week and really liked that as well. Wouldn't be surprised to see Renner get a nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Last night on Netflix watched an oldie: Night of the Generals, with Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif. I'm a sucker for World War II mysteries like that.

Saw "The Town" today. Interesting that of the two best films I've seen this year, The Town and Inception, both had Pete Postlethwaite in a supporting role. His agent should get a nice bonus this Christmas.

Also, I've seen the trailer for "Secretariat" several times, and I find it hilarious that Disney is trying to make the story of perhaps the most dominant "athlete" in the history of competitive sports into another "underdog overcomes the odds."

And a woman-empowerment piece, in the bargain.

Disney never lets anything resembling historical fact get in the way of
precisely what they want to do.

That said, have little doubt the picture will do very, very well in the $$$ dept.

Wait till you see the Belmont in the movie. Secretariat will probably rally down the backstretch and win in a photo finish.

I don't think the Secretariat movie will do very well at the Box Office unless it gets spectacular reviews.

Believe (a) the reviews will be decent, and (b) the Disney brand carries all
measure of quasi-dreck into the boxoffice stratosphere.

Speaking of gambling movies, I watched the Cincinnati Kid the other night.

Man does that movie end abruptly. Long ass set-up for the big card game, but the card game doesn't come off dramatic at all, although I did like Edward G. Robinson's character in it.

If it's not true to the story, I think it could get trashed.

That said, nobody will have to twist my arm to see Diane Lane in anything.

Other than much of the stilted dialog and the ridiculous hand which winds it up, it's a nice movie.

The historical liberties taken are breathtaking.

It would be semi-funny if they took "liberty taking" to Onion-like extremes.

"Secretariat has lapped Sham in the Belmont!"
