Last movie I saw was The American. I really enjoyed how slow-paced and deliberate it was, but the whole "prostitute with a heart of gold" thing doesn't make sense in a movie that also is trying to be about the inescapability of death. How can a movie that was so deadpan, so serious, so straightforward embrace such a maudlin, stereotypical, hackneyed character/relationship/plot device. You're either nihilistic, or you're not; it doesn't make sense to have it both ways.

Watched "Iron Man 2" last night and wasn't impressed. First one was much better.

Watched "Crazy Heart" last night, and while I thought it was a good movie I didn't think it was great. I never understood Maggie Gyllenhall's motivations and felt the entire "16-months later..." epilogue could have been cut. I enjoyed Daniels' performance and the movie overall, I just didn't think the relationship rang true.

"The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," which I just read a couple of weeks ago and loved.

I liked the movie, too. The actress playing Lisbeth Salander was pitch perfect.

The few plot tweaks away from the book seemed to help the story along. I would have enjoyed more of Lisbeth's ... financial dealings ... from the end of the book, but it was OK.

I patiently await the sequel whenever Netflix says it's available. And I have no interest in seeing the U.S. remake, when it arrives.

I actually liked this way more than I should have!

I've seen the sequel in the theater. It's great. I eagerly await part 3, which is supposed to hit my art theater Oct. 29.

Watched "Monument Avenue" last night. Pretty good stuff. Really seem to be on a kick with that Boston bad boy genre right now.

And now, "The Social Network," which was very very good. Classic Sorkin with the brilliant dialogue delivered 100 mph. The casting is perfect, from what I can tell. Justin Timberlake, as he's been in everything I've seen him in, is very good. He oozes smarmy, perfect for his Napster-founding character. I really need to see it again as I think I missed a lot the first time because of the speedy conversations and stuff I don't really understand. I guess because I saw it free this time, I won't really mind paying to see it again.

After having rented it 3-4 times without being able to see it, I finally watched Y Tu Mama Tambien. Tho it was a Mexican film, it had Eurotrash written all over it: sizzling sex scenes (and the older woman in question is smolderingly sexy tho not smoking hot), nice scenery and cinemaphotography, and some spots of utterly silly dialogue. It does have a surprise that could make one cringe more than The Crying Game surprise did.

I haven't seen it in a long time, but I don't remember anything real shocking about it.

Um, the threesome at the end? How the two boys are occupying themselves up top while the woman is orally pleasuring them below? Shocking if you're not expecting it.

Those sex scenes were something. I don't want to say they were um, inspiring, but well, they were inspiring!

All I know is, a woman asks me to help find her passport, I am so there
