I finally saw Paranormal Activity last night. It was much, much better than I thought it would be considering the reviews I remembered. It totally creeped me out.

He does certain things well, particularly anger ... interacting with women is not one of them. I half-expected him to tell Jena Malone in the shower "I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."

And while your point stands about Lucas, good actors can overcome that sort of writing and direction. Harrison Ford is proof. He took the same sort of hackneyed dialogue and created one of the most memorable characters in movie history and it launched him to stardom. Christensen hasn't exactly become A-list material and he's worked with other directors not named Lucas. Jumper is the only thing he's done since ATOC that I've even heard of (it was a decent movie, I have to admit).

Awful movie that wishes it was 1/10th as creepy as 'The Blair Witch Project.' I didn't find it at all scary.

To each his own. I liked it better than the hour-and-a-half-shaky-cam-running through-the-woods that was Blair Witch. Also my expectations for Paranormal were below low.

I loved Blair Witch. It scared the crap out of me. To be fair, the city I lived in at the time was one of the first markets where it was playing, so we knew almost nothing about it.

Catfish was the most boring movie I've ever seen that was released in theaters. It's as pointless as it is slow.

Blair Witch scared the hell out of me too. Good use of non-visual cues. The scariness quotient is probably tied to individual tolerances for darkness. Mine's pretty low.

Last movie ... I finally saw Inception last night and came away astounded. Easily the best movie I've seen this year. Even if you can't keep up with the layered story lines, it's highly entertaining and visually striking.

It was a pretty chilling flick. It has been shit on a bit in the last few years, but I don't believe anyone has made anything quite as good using that approach.

Agreed ... I think how quickly you saw it after its release plays a big part in perception of it. Anyone I know who saw it opening weekend absolutely loved it. Anyone who saw it after that despised it. I think expectations and/or spoilers ruined it for a lot of people.

After months of trying to get my 3-year-old to go to Toy Story 3 with me, I gave up and my wife and I went to see it at the cheapie theater. Awesome as expected, I loved it. Was surprised as just how much emotion it stirred up. Buzz Lightyear in Spanish is awesome, as was Ken. I think it probably would have been a little too intense for my kid - who is scared of pretty much everything at this point - but of course, now that he found out I actually went to see it without him, he wants to go.
Not a movie, but I started watching Freaks and Geeks on DVD after wanting to for awhile, and so far it's every bit as good as I expected.
Also started to watch Green Zone but fell asleep, mostly because of exhaustion, not because I wasn't entertained.

Freaks and Geeks isn't The Wire, but it's well worth most people's time.

It says a lot that so many cast members of that show went on to become pretty big stars.

Yeah, agreed, it's not The Wire, but few shows are.
