The Messenger is an amazing film. I'd have to check my top 10 from last year, but I probably had it No. 2 or so.

    Powerful stuff.

Co-sign on "The Tourist." Was very surprised that there was zero chemistry between Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp.

I finally saw all of Inception.

It's nice to see something finally live up to the hype.

It felt like a film from the 1950s ... and that is not a compliment. So wooden and stiff from all parties.

Mrs. Novelist and I went to see The Tourist today. I'm generally not the toughest critic on movies, but I'm like others on here. It left a lot to be desired.

    MacGruber.

    Get Him to the Greek.

I thought MacGruber was funnier. Barely.

"The Pledge." Had never seen it and don't know how I missed it. Nicholson is superb and the directing, by Sean Penn, is amazing.

I liked it too . . . but what I most liked about it is that it wasn't a remake, reboot or update of an established Hollywood franchise -- and how many summer movies could you say that about?
Especially since you're currently dealing with a bunch of morons who haven't had an original throught in their heads in a zillion years.

(and the above thought is NOT original with me, but I was sufficiently impressed by it, to repeat it, here)

I didn't see Inception, but I'm pretty sure to live up to the hype it would have had to find Jimmy Hoffa's corpse AND cure cancer.

I didn't think it was as confusing as everyone said. As Ben said, it's nice to see a movie that's not based off a TV show or a remake of another film that came out 20 years ago.

It wasn't perfect, by any stretch (and sorta Matrix-derived), but my Lord, in this stagnant time, it was refreshing.

If you liked Inception, I would strongly recommend another Christopher Nolan movie, "Memento." I liked the idea of "Inception", but the the barrage of gunfire and explosions at the end just pounded me into a coma state. I loved "Memento." It was a bastard of a movie to watch, insofar as you really have to pay attention.
