Managed to avoid that one, but after seeing the commercials, I was impressed when I found out that it was Timberlake providing Boo Boo's voice. Have to agree with you on that one. He hit that one on the screws.

Over the last couple weeks, I've watched "Hot Tub Time Machine," "Crazy Heart," "The Blind Side," and "500 Days of Summer."

    I'd rank them:

    (1) Crazy Heart
    (2) 500 Days of Summer
    (3) The Blind Side
    (4) Hot Tub Time Machine

"500 Days of Summer" was so, so, so damned close to being really, really, really good. But it suffered from the "Juno" problem of being oh-so-hip for its own good. But I thought it really nailed what it's like to be in love with the idea of someone instead of an actual person. And also what it's like to date someone who is hot-and-cold when you're all-in. It made me think, "Holy shit am I glad I never have to go through any of that again."

"Crazy Heart" was very close, as well, to being great, but was slightly too formulaic and predictable.

Yeah DW, Crazy Heart was far more a great performance by Jeff Bridges than it was even a very good movie.

True Grit was tremendous. Half of Jeff Bridges' funny lines were the ones he muttered under his breath. Cinematography was reminiscent of the great John Ford westerns.

Had to mention this one. First, my preface: I'm not a scary movie guy. Maybe I'm chickenshit, maybe I got my fill growing up in a home with my Mom who was a scary movie nut... but I watched one on TV the weekend before Christmas that was awesome.

"30 Days of Night." Premise: A band of vampires descend on an Alaska town that is about to go without sun for a month, and just ravage the remaining townsfolk. Gruesome, gory, scary. But damned good.

Saw a few recently: 1. Kick Ass, which was pretty good, and ridiculously violent. It was interesting seeing Aaron Johnson playing an American geek teenager after just seeing him play John Lennon as a teen in Nowhere Boy. Watched Zemeckis' A Christmas Carol, which I liked, but I'm a sucker for most Christmas movies. And Into Thing Air, a straight-to-video of Krakauer's book with a pretty good cast (Shooter McGavin, Richard Jenkins, Peter Horton) but pretty cheesy.

I'm not going to compare Adams to Streep, but of the actresses who are under 40, I'm not sure any (other than maybe Kate Winslet) are better.

Portman (when not working off a George Lucas script) might be the only one.

Yeah, that would be close. Both are great.

Saw 'True Grit' yesterday. I really enjoyed it, although some of the changes in the screenplay had me scratching my head.
Still a a wonderful movie that did a great job of capturing the humor in the novel.
