I remember watching this as a kid with my parents and trying to figure out what they were paying that lady for.

Threw together a blog item on my top films of 2010. Since I live in relatively uncultured central Illinois, a few films that might crack this list are yet unseen by my eyes.

Saw 'How Do You Know,' and was left with an interesting and unique feeling. I really enjoyed the main characters, but they seemed stuck in a very boring and uneventful part of their lives -- and that created a boring and uneven film.

It was lightweight and cliched while also wanting to be subtle. Would love to see a sequel with these same characters in a different setting.

The Fighter - The women steal the show. Bale is pretty good though. Marky Mark...meh. Won't win best picture.

I still haven't seen it, but they completely botched the marketing and the release of this movie. I think they did a limited release and then went wide around Christmas. We were watching the ads for it before Christmas and wanted to see it, but it wasn't playing locally even though the ads said it was. Then, by the time it was actually here, we saw other movies instead.

If you have a movie with that director and that cast and you can't break $100 million, someone fucked up royally.

Finally got around to seeing 'Invictus' ... certainly wasn't blown away by it. Actually thought it was a little too over dramatic.

Agree, Gator. I won't say it sucked. The cinematography/rugby scenes were terrific. But as a whole, pretty big letdown. Expected a lot more out of a Damon/Freeman/Eastwood combo.

Saw "Going the Distrance" with Drew Barrymore and Justin Long. Netflix special, very low expectations then....a lot of LOL moments. Long's single "buddies" appeared pretty lame at the start (think Elaine's alternative guys in Seinfeld) and then I saw that they were pretty funny guys. Not great but enjoyable.

"The Town" is one of my favorite movies of the year, but if you catch it on video do not -- I repeat -- DO NOT watch the "extended version" of the film in first viewing.

Bought the Blu-Ray and watched the nearly 30-minute longer cut last night. Completely different movie; it lacks focus, retards character motivation and creates plot holes. If you must watch the extended version, please make the theatrical version your first exposure to the film.

Saw True Grit last night and really dug it. I don't take the same approach* to movies a lot of you seem to -- I just want to be entertained and laugh -- and that happened.

    * I am a pretty good fan of Woody Allen movies and do look at them differently than I do most films.

Oh, and I find Justin Long to be as unlikeable and obnoxious in movies as I do Brennan Frazier.
