It was, in a way. But it also pissed me off in how obvious it was at points. There was nothing in it that really surprised me, big picture.

As a recovering Catholic, I get into demonic possession movies.
I might go see the Anthony Hopkins one.

I just won a Blu-Ray player and am psyched to see what difference it makes (I bought a HD-DVD player when they were discontinued, the upscaling to supposed 1080 has been okay, not great.)

The first movie I ever watched in Blu-Ray was "No Country for Old Men." You could see every crease and crevasse in the West Texas landscape, and then I realized it was a close-up of Tommy Lee Jones' face.

I know exactly what you mean. Although I think I ended up hating it.

Ditto on that. It got, I dunno, awkward/cringe worth. Needless to say, we fast forwarded to the actual dinner part.

I also thought Dinner for Schmucks sucked. I felt sorry for Paul Rudd - the actor, not the character he was playing.

2010 marked the first year since I was -- I think 2 -- that I didn't see one movie in a theater or a drive-in, which encompasses those early years.

I wanted to see the "Wall Street" sequel, but never did. Instead, I got the DVD for Christmas. I think I've gotten to the point where I've REALLY got to be interested in seeing a movie to actually carve out time, plunk down $25 for tickets and grub and venture forth.

And with few exceptions ("The Social Network," the Wall St. sequel), I don't feel like I missed much, frankly.

Shutter Island. I thought it was about something else, that sci fi thing with Scarlett Johansson. Instead it's Leonardo DiCaprio, who plays one weird character.

I don't go to the theater much anymore. When I was single I regularly went twice a week.

If my wife and I want to see a movie, we have to throw down $20 for a babysitter and $20 for the movie. $40 when times are tight for a movie that might very well suck... No thanks...

I think I saw five movies in the theater last year and four were kids' movies. I have a friend who gets advanced screeners and he passes them along and I watch a lot of stuff that way. Anything else, I just wait for DVD, and stuff goes to DVD faster and faster these days.

Just got back from The Fighter. Good film, but wasn't blown away. I could see Bale winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Amy Adams stole the show, I thought. Some criticisms: wasn't too impressed with the boxing scenes. It wasn't Rocky-like ridiculous, but I thought the boxing/training in Million Dollar Baby was much more believable. Ward's family - Melissa Leo and the carnie sisters from hell - were a bit over the top. I think a couple of those sisters were in Gone Baby Gone. Yeee-ikes. Kinda funny juxtaposed to Adams, who I think ... good lord, not even words to describe and this won't do justice, but she's a total babe. The one exception, family memberwise, was Chief Jerry from Rescue Me. He was great. Oh, and I thought Wahlberg was a little uninspired. Not trying to shit all over the movie, it was enjoyable. But I think it's a little overhyped.

Not to nitpick, but I wouldn't call 4 or 5 good reviews on SJ as overhyped.
