"Matewan." Damn, Chris Cooper used to be kinda cute. Great movie. Of course it's Sayles so it couldn't be bad.

Have been sick, crashing on the couch, getting sick of daytime television. So, I not only popped the DVD of "Miracle" in and watched it a couple of times, I watched the DVD extras disk.

Had no idea that the guy playing Buzz Schneider was Buzz's kid, Billy. That's kind of cool! Have no idea how that escaped my attention before.

Also, when they show Jim Craig's dad cheering in the stands during the game against the Soviets, the real Patty Brooks - Herb's wife - is sitting right behind him in the stands.

Caught the 2009 film "Moon" on Encore last night. One of my favorites of 2009, and it is enhanced on second viewing. Sam Rockwell is brilliant and director Duncan Jones (David Bowie's son) makes a sparkling debut. Kevin Spacey s great as the voice of the moon base computer, GERTY.

A astronaut is serving a three-year tour on the moon, which in the future depicted is being harvested for a mineral that creates clean energy for Earth. Come to find out not all is at it seems in his space station.

Don't want to give too much away, but see it if you can. I'm sure if you search the film, Encore will be showing it again this weekend.

Finally watched Paper Heart. I loved it. But that's kind of in my wheelhouse.

Taking a break from movies and starting to plow through Rescue Me on Netflix. I'm halfway through Season 1.

+1. I saw "Moon" in the theater and really enjoyed it. Sam Rockwell was great (as he usually is).

My pal Christy Lemire, AP movie critic, named Moon her favorite movie of 2009. I haven't seen it yet but will DVR it now that it's on cable.

BTW, Christy debuts next weekend on the new Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down At the Movies. Check your local listings for the PBS station it's on near you. Most likely Saturday or Sunday night.

As I have noted here previously, if you get the "Moon" DVD, don't forget to watch the short film "Whistle" which is included.

Redboxed "Knight and Day" and "Easy A" last night.

First, K&D was really enjoyable in a popcorn kind of way. And Cruise was good enough in it to make me forget all his baggage for 90 minutes.

Then, EA: And I gotta say... seriously crushing on Emma Stone now, though I feel a little pervy since she's so young. Enjoyable flick, though — good amount of snark, some really smart one-liners and an homage to John Hughes' 80's teen flicks. Stone's got some serious sarcastic-comedic chops.

    Memento.

That was an enjoyable two hours. Really neat concept and story.

Today I saw "The King's Speech." Yeah, yeah, I don't get out much. Great movie. In fact, the last two I've seen (True Grit was the other) have both been outstanding movies, without car chases, robots, or any kind of special effects. Just great characters and great acting.

It bothered me throughout the movie that I'd seen the speech therapist in another show. Then it came to me, he was in an Australian movie in which he plays an abusive, alcoholic father of two brothers who are competitive-level swimmers. It's also an outstanding movie.
