Saw that today. It's was excellent. Always enjoy Colin Firth. Liked his cursing spree that ended with "tit." Very strange though, I'm 46 and was the youngest person in the theatre by I'd guess 25 years. Also older people talk a lot during movies.

Saw True Grit. A very uncomfortable movie-watching experience. The film was great, but the seats were designed for people 5 feet and shorter. A lotta cringe-worthy violence but done in the usual Coen Bros. black humor style. I echo the sentiments of just about anyone who has seen it and say the girl who played Maddie Rose was outstanding. The truest of true grit was found on Barry Pepper's teeth.

Saw Unstoppable. It is cheese. But very high grade cheese - somewhere between Dante's Peak and Volcano.

Juno's an anti-abortion screed -- and a good one, for what it is.

That relationship doesn't resonate at all. It's completely phony, and by far the worst thing about what is otherwise an entertaining picture.

Oh, I doubt it. The writer of the movie, Diablo Cody, certainly doesn't give a shit about such things. She just played the sequence for a joke with some Asian girl spouting "Your baby wants to be born." People picked up on it like they "picked up" on the pro-euthanasia stuff in "Million Dollar Baby." Sometimes, the text really just is the text.

You'll notice I didn't add "Juno" to movies I thought were good. Because I don't think it is.

"Blue Valentine." It was OK. Usually love Ryan Gosling but the screenplay was mostly dull, except for a few scenes. He did the best he could. It was pretty grim, too.

Saw The Black Swan. Natalie Portman was scary good, showing equally well the vulnerability of her real self, and the swings and madness of her delusions and dreams. The film can't be thought of as a plotted story, but rather as the play by play of the psych of someone trying to please everybody, while deep down hating herself. And the Portman-Kunis sex scene was far more uncomfortable than erotic.

Wife & I rented "The Social Network" tonight. While I enjoyed it, the talk of it as the Best Picture of the year is ridiculous. It was a good, good flick but in the realm of true classics? Really?

Plucked "Sunshine Cleaning" off the DVR tonight. It was OK, maybe slightly better than OK. I had just watched another Amy Adams movie, "Julie and Julia," the other night, which was a very different sort of thing.

We just watched The Social Network and I was truly underwhelmed. I was amazed at how little redeeming value it had -- I did not need to watch this movie to understand that the founder of that or many other companies was an unhappy, myopic genius who can create billions of dollars and not be any happier or any less of a social misfit. I didn't think it was particularly well-acted, either, beyond Eisenberg, who played his part well. I get it, it was well-directed, well-produced, etc., but it was slow-moving, it was neither surprising nor funny, it didn't teach me anything, and the implied moral of the story was one I already knew years ago. I didn't even LEARN anything from the movie, and I am not one who tries to keep up on the tech news or the Facebook news fronts. Definitely not recommended.

We saw True Grit last weekend and I liked it a lot. The story is not the best, but the characters are excellent, and it is extremely well acted. The kid is out of this world good, especially given her age, and the adult leads and character actors are almost universally fantastic. The whole movie had such a great sass and irreverence to it.

Plenty of Best Picture winner have no staying power. How many people have watched Slumdog Millionaire, Million Dollar Baby, The English Patient etc... since they came out on DVD?
