I rewatched Million Dollar Baby recently and I still liked it. As for Slumdog, I've only seen it the once and I have never seen (nor intend to see) the English Patient.

Well, you'll never be getting a job writing for the J. Peterman catalog then.

    Nice.

Anyway, just finished watching "Repo Men". Interesting movie, disgusting special effects and a great ending. Worth a rental at least.

    Pan's Labyrinth.

Fascinating, really well done movie. Love the mix of fantasy and reality and how it all ties together at the end.

Watched "Devil," the latest Shyamalan movie last night. As a staunch Shyamalan defender, I'll admit it was pretty terrible. It started out pretty well I thought and had some potential, but the poor acting (not quite as bad as The Happening) was tough to get past and the payoff wasn't worth the ride.

By my estimation, he hit three home runs with his first three movies. His last three have all been whiffs.

Saw "The Education of Charlie Banks," one of Jesse Eisenberg's (The Social Network) early films. Not a bad movie.

Took my 3 1/2-year-old son to see Tangled today, which he thankfully picked over Yogi Bear. It was OK, nothing special, certainly not one of my favorite Disney movies. My kid thought it was OK, a little scary here and there but only one part where he had to hide his eyes. But it was only his second movie in a theater and he made it through, so I'm happy.

Just started three months of free HBO and Showtime, so I'm surfing around for stuff I haven't seen.

Watched an indie film called "Focus" yesterday. Starred William H. Macy as a guy who got glasses in the 1940s and wearing them resulted in people assuming he was Jewish. I guess it's probably forgotten that the atmosphere back then was charged with tension. Interesting flick.

Also watched most of Quantum of Solace. The actress who played Fields is tres caliente. Not as good as Casino Royale, but it did set up the next movie, which we may have to wait 10 years for.

Started "City Island" with Andy Garcia and Juliana Marguiles last night. I'll finish it before I cast judgement ...

We just saw 'Cronos' on Friday night. I believe it's Del Toro's directorial debut. I really like his work.

    "No Strings Attached"

Not terrible by any means. Better than your typical romantic comedy. Certainly not breaking news by any means, but Portman is gorgeous.

Saw "Pandorum" with Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster and "Buried" with Ryan Reynolds.

Pandorum was a decent, if derivative, scifi flick. Worth the two hours of a Netflix rental. I liked the ending.

Buried was a love it or hate it type movie. I loved it. The ending made it for me. The basic plot is that Reynolds is a civilian contractor in Iraq kidnapped and buried alive by insurgents. The entire movie takes place in the box and it's quite intense. Definitely worth the redbox rental.
