    Watched The Green Hornet.

I had low expectations, but I thought it wasn't bad.

Watched "Machete" on PPV the other night.
    Awesome action flick.
Just the right tone of over the top violence (if there was an Oscar for best use of an intestine, Danny Trejo wins going away) and humor that you want in a popcorn flick. Even my wife, who isn't big on action movies like that, loved it.

Also saw "True Grit" in the theater last week. Also awesome. The violence wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be, and the girl who played Maddie and Jeff Bridges were terrific.
Something else I noticed about that movie, too, was an astonishing lack of cussing. Given the genre, the hard-nosed characters and the Coen Bros.' reputation, I figured the F-bombs would be a-flyin'. Nope. Other than one "son of a bitch" uttered by Rooster Cogburn toward the end, I do not recall hearing a single cuss word.

Probably needed the sonofabitch to nail down the PG rating.

The novel doesn't contain much in the way of cussing.

Yeah, the PG rating was important to the Coen brothers from what I read in an interview.

They mentioned that the movie appeals to all four quadrants: The young, the old, men, and women".

    Me too.

I think Colin Firth has the Oscar for best actor locked up.

I had "Buried" second on my top 10 list this year. A tremendously effective film on so many levels. The choices made by director Rodrigo Cortes are to be commended. And Ryan Reynolds was fantastic.

Oscar nominations are announced Tuesday morning. I made my early predictions. Give them a read at my newspaper's entertainment blog.
