I thought there were some good ones.

    "The Hurt Locker"

    "Grace Is Gone" (criminally underrated)

    "In the Valley of Elah"

    Watched "Winter's Bone" today.

For a Best Picture nominee and a movie that was universally praised, I was kind of underwhelmed. I think that it does a tremendous job of portraying white rural poverty, but it seems like the plot is mostly an excuse for the atmospherics. Most movie plots are too contrived, but this one to me, went the opposite direction: Under-realized and actually sort of lazy.

I suspect that it is realistic, which is a mark in its favor, but man is it sloooooooow.

I thought the "The Town" was an almost point-perfect heist movie. I felt like the ending fell flat (at least in terms of Affleck's character), but otherwise it was solid.

I didn't think it was quite as good as "Gone Baby Gone," which I felt had a stronger story, but Affleck's developing real chops as a director. I really want to see what he does next, which I've never said about his acting career.

The Town was one of my favorite films of last year. I thought it should have been nominated for Best Picture. I think in most years, Renner's performance would have gotten him the statue, but he wasn't even the best supporting actor in a movie set in Boston.

Cooper? Don Draper? Or the dad from "Inception"?

"The Town" was a good, entertaining film but not great. Not enough Blake Lively, whose character was flat and not used well enough. Renner was the best character of all, but beyond he and Affleck, the other two guys were unknowns and had no real impact emotionally on the viewer. Cooper was good but he was only in, what, two scenes? Maybe less. It's worth watching for sure, but it's not a classic by any means.

"The Adjustment Bureau." Yesterday. I was entertained and enjoyed the movie.

My biggest issue with the Town was the relationship between Doug and Claire. Required way too much suspension of disbelief. It was a really big hole in what could have been an outstanding movie. Still a good flick. I liked it. But they mangled that relationship. I just wasn't buying it.

Totally believable. "Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration, don't fail me now."

Just to chime in on The Town. I thought it was a really good heist movie and I'm not really a fan of the genre. I, too, didn't really like the chemistry between Doug and Claire. I did think the secondary characters were great: Renner, Postlewaite, Jon Hamm. And the cinematography is really nice. Btw, I hear the director's cut has great scenes that were cut out which make the movie make more sense.

Turned in my man card and watched Eat Pray Love the other night. It kept my attention and left me entertained, but now I need a shit gets blown up movie to balance the ledger. Any suggestions?

I totally relate to the desperation of it, but the ability to take a year off and travel to Italy, India and Mali ... not relatable.

Caught The Natural the other night and was surprised that a.) it's 27 years old and b.) it still entertains. God Redford was skinny though.
