Would have loved to see Snoop Dogg transported into Steel Magnolias. Anyhoo, Up Close and Personal started life as a harrowing cautionary tale about Jessica Savitch, and it had Alanna Nash's solid book as source material. But those in charge decided over time to make it some smaltzfest.

Hahahahahh I had no idea it had anything to do with Jessica Savitch.

Watched "Due Date" and "Love and Other Drugs" over the weekend.

Due Date — As someone said here, I like it the first time I saw it (Planes, Trains). It had some solid parts, though. The insults flying from RDJ were gold.

L&OD — Some critics panned it as merely a vehicle for Anne Hathaway to show us her tits. (Killick: And that's bad?) And yes, the story is predictable as hell. But no, it's not as bad as I've seen described. Glad I didn't see it in the theater, though, spending $10 to do it. At a Redbox 99 cents, it was solid entertainment.

Jamie Sheridan played Flagg. Most recently seen as the Captain on L&O: Criminal Intent. I agree that he was miscast but I really liked Adam Storke as Larry Underwood. Also liked Gary Sinise very much as Stu.

  5. Watched "Easy A" Sunday night.
An hour and 32 minutes and loved it.
Great story with excellent dialogue and cast. Really well done and fun.

"Insidious" today. Kind of a disappointment, especially based on expectation. There were some good chills, but there was way too much been-there, done-that:

    Paranormal Activity
    Poltergeist
    Nightmare on Elm Street
    The Shining

Although Jacob's Ladder is not a ghost movie, the father-son dynamic in Insidious made me yearn for it. I haven't seen it in a long time and have to dig it up at some point, because I am a fan.

I might also plug in Hoosiers, too, just to erase the image of Barbara Hershey's cosmetically altered face. Now that was scary.

    Finally watched 127 Hours.

Parts were really tough to watch, but the Danny Boyle pacing and music selection was really good. Franco was outstanding. It's hard to pull off a movie like this with so little action, but it's really well done.

    Watched "Hereafter" tonight.

Not gonna lie, kind of disappointed.

Maybe it was my elevated expectations, or my love of everything Matt Damon, but this one didn't really do it for me.

Fantastic first hour but it really kind of dragged in the middle and the ending was kind of a convoluted mess.

    (Spoiler alert)

For a movie that spent so much time trying to show up that Matt Damon's character is trying to distance himself from his gift, on what planet would he want to get with the one girl who would probably never stop asking him about it?

And how, exactly, are we as an audience supposed to believe these two people, two of the only people on the planet who are consciously aware of the afterlife, found each other and fell in love?

    Not buying it.

Still, I'm glad I saw it. If for nothing else than to scratch that itch of this movie that I'd been looking forward to since I saw the first trailer.

I think Franco is a douche, but he was so good in that movie.

I'm assuming you've never read the book, because all of that is straight from it. I'd recommend getting the original, edited version - the re-release was updated back in '94, but King added back in a lot of stuff that was probably better left on the cutting room floor.

FWIW, It doesn't hold up terribly well either. Scared the bejesus out of my 12-year-old self, and I don't recommend allowing anyone that age to read the book, either.
