You're going to hell for that ...

Love me some Maggie Gyllenhaal (or however you spell it)

I finally got around to putting it at the top of my Netflix queue. Maybe it was the expectation, but I was under-whelmed. I still feel like "The Social Network" was a better picture. That said, the acting was masterful.

Her next role should be as Yertle the Turtle. I don't find her to be a particularly attractive or engaging actress and that role required both.

Finally watched "The Fighter" tonight. Good god there were some great performances. The fights were a little weak and Wahlberg continues to suck, but Bale was masterful and Leo and Adams disappeared into their roles. Good story and well made.

I liked Inception better, but this was pretty damn good.

There are pieces that look like they are faithful to the comic, but overall, it really isn't. Beast's transformation and the friendship between Magneto and Xavier are taken from the comics. Havok's inability to control his powers is, too.

But there was never any connection to the Cuban Missle Crisis in the X-Men books and they are mixing in characters from different eras. Some make sense to be around when Magneto and Xavier were young. Others, not at all.

But it's an X-Men movie, so I'm sure I'll end up seeing it.

I had some problem with the tone. I thought Carrey and McGregor were both perfectly cast, but the film jammed a lot of plot into a relatively small timeframe.

Was it supposed to be a farce? A satire? A straightforward comedy?

For taking such huge risks with explicit depictions of homosexuality, I wonder why it didn't try to push the envelope with more subtle comedy; far too broad in parts.

    (Spoilers for Phillip Morris ahead)

There were so many holes in the plot that needed to be filled. Why did the wife forgive him so readily? Did he really escape prison that many times? How did he ingeniously flee jail repeatdly and yet somehow get caught each time within days?

The story is so good, I didn't think it needed the odd tone that pervaded it.

I ended up researching some of the real life details. Fascinating, fascinating stuff.

  7. Saw Bridesmaids last night.

Pretty good for a chick flick. A lot of laugh out loud moments and some raunchy humor - mostly by Melissa McCarthy (the chick who played Sookie on the Gilmore Girls).

The more I see of Kristen Wiig, the more I like her. She might be the best SNL actress to transition to movies in recent memory.

It is not a female verison of the Hangover, but it's funny nonetheless.

COMPLETELY DISAGREE. Her awkwardness and her social inability to relate to people was key. A hot chick does not work in that role in any way.

I do find her disagreeable in nearly every role she plays, but loved her in this.

Maggie Gyllenhaal was not hot in Secretary?

    Does not compute.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, by definition, is a hideous creature.
