I have to say, that looks fantastic. I know everyone will most likely dismiss the American version, but I am impressed with that whole thing - seems really dark, gritty, freaky. Not a lot of shots of Lisbeth, but I get that. I know there's serious firepower behind this movie, but it looks more like an awesome indie.

Will I need to have read the book to see the movie? Does anyone know? Do you think so?

I'm not against reading the book. Just haven't done it yet, and I'm kind of busy right now. Not busy enough to not be on here, but whatever.

Trailer looks cool, but it reminded me how much "Immigrant Song" sucks.

You don't have to read the book(s). Trust. The stories are not that complicated - they were made for movies. You would seriously enjoy this badass chick.

On the other hand, there are all kinds of interesting things about the way Swedish society works that you are left out or glossed over in the films. I'm in favour of reading the books.

True, HC. But I learned a lot more reading Mankell. :)

I have a love/hate relationship with reading popular fiction, and I did get restless about 40 pages into "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." But about 100 pages in, he sets the hook ... and got me. I quickly plowed through all three.

Agree 100%. In fact, I think it's Hankell that led me to read the Larssen books.

Never read Mankell, but I did watch the first three or four Wallander films. I did like the actress who played Wallander's daughter, but those were some horrific, amateur hour movies. Makes our worst crime dramas here look like The Wire.

    Spoiler al ... whatever.

How the fuck did they even get to Bangkok? Unless I was flabbergasted about how unoriginal the movie was as I watched it, I don't recall it ever being explained how they got from a beach in Phuket or wherever the hell to flophouse Bangkok. They (sort of) explained why, but not how.

I had a 10-hour drive the day after I saw Hangover 2 and the more I thought about it the more pissed I was at how dumb and unoriginal it was.

There's a reason I generally don't go to first-run movies and even more so for sequels. I should've stayed away.

They took the boat. Seriously. That was it.

I think for Hangover 3 you have Alan kidnapped and you show the others debating whether they want to look for him and have the kidnappers debating whether any amount of $$$ is worth having to deal with him.
