"The Thing" with Kurt Russell never gets old.

After a post-Stanley Cup two-day bender, I am "TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!!"

Encore had The Thing/The Sting back-to-back last night. You cannot go wrong there.

It's funny how, when you run across a favorite movie on TV (for me, Glengarry Glen Ross), it gives you a unique sense of joy...even if you have that movie on a DVD that you never watch. Sort of like when you hear a favorite song (for me, it's the Clash's Train in Vain) on the radio, even though you have it on your iPod, a DVD, a CD, a casette tape and vinyl!

That's exactly what occurred to me when I saw that The Sting was coming up next on the schedule.

"You know, you have this on DVD and can watch it anytime you want."

Happens to me with the original Star Wars trilogy.

Was forced to watch it today. Horrific. About the only thing I laughed at was Rachel Dratch. And the kids? I'm against child abuse as much as the next guy, but I wanted to take a belt to both of them. Then backhand Sandler's cousin. Ugh.

I have the gnawing feeling it could have been better...if, for instance, it turned out the boy and girl were cousins...or if maybe the dog returned to play a key role...and especially if the boy (Joe) needed to take some sort of actions to help the alien build his ship. I kept thinking he would have to tell the alien where the missing last "Rubik" cube was, for instance. Just something to add a little depth. BTW, the Rubik cube was not widely known (if known at all) in 1979, when the movie was set.
