DVR'd The Runaways and have now watched it twice. Really enjoy that movie.

They did a fantastic job casting the band: Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Scout Taylor-Compton as Lita Ford were virtual lookalikes to the girls from the 70s they were portraying. And even the 'Cherry Bomb' scene was choreographed to match their Japanese tour appearance. Check out the Youtube video of 'Cherry Bomb' and watch how closely the movie mirrors the band's onstage moves.

Only downside for me was at the end when they failed to mention Lita and Sandy West in the post-band wrap-up of what happened to the key players. It was as much their band as Joan's and more so than Cherie's. Even more of a reason to mention Sandy since she passed away several years ago.

I also wonder what Lita thinks about the film. It definitely portrayed her as a real bi-atch, which maybe that was the case, but she comes across as less than a ray of sunshine on celluloid.

A very intriguing band. Came on to the scene as 16 year olds and were basically done as a band by the ripe old age of 20. They may have come along too early for their own good--who knows what might have transpired if they had broken about 5 years later as MTV was unfolding. Could have ended up much bigger than they did.

I figured you not be able to tolerate Mara just based on the connection to the Steelers. (Founder Art Rooney was her great grandfather).

Channel-surfing last night and saw "The Bad News Bears."
That movie could not be made today, for reasons having nothing to do with Tanner's pottymouth.

    Interesting take on Cars 2:

Found it a bit talky and wooden. Good movie, just not better than Matchpoint.

Spot on. And to piggy-back, I felt like Pixar "sold out" a bit with this film. Want to take a risk, Pixar? Make a spy movie with automobiles and DON'T include the characters from the first film. Or, if you do, leave the "buddy picture" elements on the cutting-room floor. Cars 2 suffered from what many, many, many mainstream movies do: trying to be all things to all people.

Nah, if anything I'd commend her for escaping his inherent evilness.

Just to be clear, I'm pretty sure she has a much stronger connection to the Giants than to the Steelers, like her sister, Kate. The Maras are Giants people.

The connection is the same to both families, though she did choose to go by Rooney, which is actually her middle name.

I guess that stands to reason.

Went with Mrs. Novelist to watch Larry Crowne last night. It had its entertaining moments, but it really didn't live up to its cast.

Watched 'The Tourist' last night. It was lame.
Watched 'Five Million Years to Earth' this morning. Very cool.
