More minutes equals more explosions and more stuff flying through the air crashing into buildings.

    Pass.

Dammit, GWTW laughs at 154 minutes.

I think Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was about 150 too. But it was better than Transformers 3, I'm assuming.

Yeah, it was too much. I was rooting for the Decepticons to win after a while just to end the damn movie.

I had the Russell Crowe "Robin Hood" on my DVR for almost six months, but finally deleted it because I couldn't block off nearly three hours to watch it.

So, in the wake of seeing Transformers 3 last night, I decided to go back and rewatch the first two flicks.

Much as I thought, TF2 sucked balls. But, finally, I understand why. Nothing happened. Nothing at all.

In the first movie, there was an actual plot. The Transformers came to Earth to get the All-Spark (Which is a ridiculous concept BTW) in order to prevent the Decepticons from acquiring it and turning everything into bad robots.

The third movie had a well defined plot (Notice I say defined, not executed) in that Megatron and another character wanted to bring the Transformers' home planet to Earth to call it their own.

But the second movie? Nothing happened.

Apart from some shitty/underdeveloped story involving a machine that eats up the sun, all the second movie did was kill Optimus Prime, revive him and allow Sam to tell his girlfriend he loved her.

    That's was it.

So, with that being said, I'm going to move TF3 into the top spot of the franchise (in my opinion of course) because it was just such a fun ride. While I enjoyed the original, I couldn't really get behind the whole All-Spark concept and didn't really care too much about it. And, apart from an utterly useless female lead (They really shouldn't have replaced Megan Fox), the movie was much more enjoyable than the original.

And, yes, Transformers 2 remains one of the worst sequels I've ever seen. Two and a half hours of nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I think, like Nicholson and Eastwood, Hanks has become so iconic that no matter what role he plays, you see Tom Hanks. He does a lot of the likable schlub stuff, but if you think "Road to Perdition" was a break from the norm, what about "Philadelphia," "Apollo 13," "The Da Vinci Code," "Saving Private Ryan," "That Thing You Do!" and "The Bonfire of the Vanities"?

I see your point that his films aren't as risky as Brad Pitt doing "Babel," but I disagree that he limits his range to playing "himself."

I watched 'Transformers' on cable and fell asleep. I expected it to be bad, but it wasn't just bad. It was boring.
All that money for special effects and explosions, and they made a boring movie.

I attempted to watch the second 'Transformers' on cable and had to turn it off.
    Unwatchable.

The American public deserves every bad thing that happens because people support movies like these.

Hey, they're not exactly Citizen Kane but they're not terrible movies either. Sometimes you just want to go in, watch a bunch of cool special effects, turn your brain off and enjoy the pretty colors.

Just because it's not your cup of tea doesn't mean it doesn't have an audience that can/should enjoy it for what it is.

Just saw Transformers 3 tonight, followed by watching Inception for the first time on HBO.

Was Inception the better movie? Of course. Without question. Was it as much fun? No. Not really.

I still think the original was the best of the trilogy and No. 3 was too long, but I enjoyed it. I could have done without Wheelie and his friend (whatever that was supposed to be) and there was way too much focus on Sam and his girlfriend, but they pretty much gave me what I went to see.

Then I had to explain who Leonard Nimoy was to my nephew as well as the little in-joke for Star Trek fans.

There was some funny foreshadowing early in the movie with Star Trek on the TV.

Yeah, these movies are just popcorn flicks, lots of explosions, special effects, etc - but, that's what I want to see. I want to see my favorite childhood TV show/comic on the big screen. I want robots beating the shit out of each other.

Plot - meh. It is what it is. One unexpected twist and the 3D was pretty damn good. Now, as a huge TF nerd, I think I could imagine a better scenario but what can ya do.

What was the unexpected twist? Everything was pretty predictable to me.
