Every time I hear that film's title, I think of the cigarette industry. I guess that was the guy's name in the book (and in real life), but they might have changed it for the movie version in order to avoid confusion with "Thank You For Smoking," which is obviously a totally different type of film.

Watched it for the first time in years, last week.

    Still terrific.

Woody gets his comeuppance, in one of his best finales. You HAD to like that.

How many did we get a year after Old School came out?

I agree that without Old School we don't get The Hangover, but when was the last Summer where we had 4-5 big studio R-rated comedies like Hangover II, Bridesmaids, Bad Teacher, Horrible Bosses and The Change-Up?

    Machete

One of the worst movies I have ever seen.

    WHAT?!

If you went in expecting something other than stupid B-movie fun....well then, yeah...you'll be disappointed. That movie is comedy gold IMO.

Saw Midnight In Paris last week. Girlfriend was in town and was dying to go see it, so I gave in. It was actually really good. But it's hard to wrong with a Woody Allen flick. I love his postmodern views.

Machete was awesome. Even if the underlying politics -- the way it pushes the immigration issue -- turns you off, it's balanced at the end by using racial stereotypes (an army of pissed off Mexicans rolling into battle with a fleet of lowriders). That movie was just plain fun.

It was just O.K. for an exploitation flick. The 70s are still where it's at with that genre.

I have "I Love You, Phillip Morris" also in my queue. I need to start getting caught up on these!

It was good, but I was a little disappointed overall.

No doubt, although there are a few examples here and there (like Machete and Black Dynamite) that are excellent takes on the genre.

Black Swan arrived today. I may tackle it later tonight.
