I guess that's where we may diverge on this. I want something affirmatively, but subtley, tipping us off. Actual foreshadowing. You just demand that they don't actively mislead. I'm definitely going to have to watch it again.

It's not a mystery, so I don't think foreshadowing is necessary.
Part of the point of the movie is that pretending to want that type of life with no connections is sham.
Two characters in the movie espouse this lifestyle, and they're both lying.
She has a family, and he is heart-broken and looking.

    Foreshadowing wouldn't be appropriate.

  3. Haven't seen it yet, but I probably will (at least in a budget theater) because I'm a Marvel comics fan.

Syfy Channel had a "Captain America) marathon this weekend, which I found channel surfing, so as a lark a TiVo'd the 3 offerings. Never heard of 'em before. The 1979 releases were two parts of a failed TV pilot that looked and sounded like a cheesy ripoff of Six Million Dollar Man and Incredible Hulk. Hero was former Southern Cal linebacker "Reb" Brown, who if he moved as slowly and deliberately on the field as he did on the screen, couldn't outrun a dry creek.

The 1991 movie starred the brooding but equally wooden Matt Salinger, who is the son of J.D. Salinger.

All three were huge bombs, even devoid of campiness. Too bad -- had some decent casting around the heroes, like Connie Sellecca and Christopher Lee in the TV CA, and Ronny Cox and Ned Beatty in the feature film.

Rest assured, the CA bar is not set very high.

Finally saw "Gran Torino" and loved it.

Clint Eastwood's character, Walt, reminded me quite a bit of my recently deceased grandpa -- that is, if grandpa had been Dirty Harry before he retired. :)

Besides having a great plot and inneresting characters, I enjoyed the subtle and not-so-subtle references to the Dirty Harry flicks, such as Walt making the gun shape with his hand.

    Grade: A

If you didn't sneak into one without paying after the other ending, I'm putting you on blast.

For me, tonight = Captain America.

I caught some of that, too. I had never heard of the one from 1979.

The 1992 version is well-known in the comic-nerd community for being complete shit.

Given the mixed reviews, I may have to wait for this to hit DVD. All I really want is to see the Avengers trailer anyway. I've never been a big Cap fan.

"Miral." It's a great look at the whole Palestinian-Israeli conflict told through the eyes of a young girl. Really gives you a sense of what it's like to live there in the middle of it all, mostly from the Palestinian standpoint.

Saw Horrible Bosses and enjoyed it immensely. Most comedies are funny for the first hour, but don't have as many laughs as they try to wrap up the plot in final half hour. I didn't laugh much in the first 20 minutes or so of Horrible Bosses (and was getting nervous I wasn't going to like it), but it just kept getting funnier and funnier.

The last line was a brilliant way to end it.

    Funny movie.

Well, I wanted to see Horrible Bosses, but dinner ran late, so we chose Bad Teacher. And wouldn't ya know....the late showing of Horrible Bosses started about 20 minutes after Bad Teacher let out.

People who design movie theatres are dumb.

The Avengers trailer hardly showed anything. It looked kind of thrown together. It doesn't surprise me considering the movie is still in production.

That's actually a double feature being shown at a drive-in near where I work. Had I not just seen Horrible Bosses, that would have made a good night out.
