I didn't say summer movies. This is from all of 2011.

Agree with outofplace's assessment of Apes. It was OK. The special effects were good enough so as not to be distracting, which was a relief. After watching it yesterday, I was pining to see the original Planet of the Apes. Anybody know if there's going to be a sequel to "Rise"?

It's made $105 million in its first two weekends, so ..... yes.

I remember the preview and thinking it was going to be something where he went to meet her and they were going to kidnap him or something along those lines. That's the way I interpreted the preview.

I was intrigued for about 20 minutes and then it was, "All this for that? This is the best you can do?"

I think in all my years going to the movies, it was the angriest and most disgusted I've seen people after the movie. I remember walking with my wife to the door and there was an elderly woman in front of us as she turned to her husband and said, "Well, that was a piece of shit..."

So I finally saw "Catfish". The fact that I grew up 15 miles from Ishpeming, Mich. and worked down the road from the lady's house...it doesn't shock me that someone from "Ishpertucky" would try to pull crazy shit like this. I heard that this may have been a fake documentary, and I would believe it...but people from that town are pretty hickish and weird, so either way is believable.

You must not have seen "A.I." on opening night then.

Per the thread: "Pineapple Express," aka, "How many jokes from season 3 of 'The Office' can we cram into the first half-hour?" (High school girlfriend; Finger through the zipper.)

    I liked it, too.

I liked that it didn't get crazy with stuff like kidnappings or extortion.
I liked that it was just a weird, sad explanation behind it all.
It wasn't believable, but it worked for me.
The scene in which the lead is reading the sexy texts aloud to the camera is really well done, even though they're 20-something guys coming across as adolescent girls.

I WISH an adolescent girl would text me sexy things like that...

I mean, not right now...I'm 34 and that would be creepy...

Like when I was 17....that would make more sense...but then again, 17 years ago, there weren't text messages, so I couldn't wish a teen could text me sexy things...so now my head hurts...

    Nevermind.

  12. Saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes...Loved it. Absolutely loved it and can't wait until we get the next one. i hope they get continuity in casting, writing, directing, etc. because it could be a huge franchise if done right.

On topics of best movies I've seen this summer, I'd go:
    1. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
    2. Crazy, Stupid, Love
    3. Horrible Bosses

With nods to Bridesmaids and Super 8 as honorable mention.

Haven't seen Captain America yet and not a Harry Potter fan so I won't see it.

I think it's actually been a pretty good summer for movies. I haven't seen any that I wasn't at least entertained by. I'm a sucker for the Transformers from my childhood and saw it in IMAX 3D which moved it up in my book but even flicks like Friends With Benefits were pretty solid movies that didn't bore me or make me want to get up and leave.
