Trailers looked good. Not surprised that it plays well. Will catch it, down the road.

"Contagion" was really well done. Awful reminder of how despicable the "Dept. of Homeland Security" could potentially be.

    Are you marrying a dude?

Anyhoo ... watched "Blue Valentine," which goes right up there with "Revolutionary Road" in the pile of depressing relationship movies.

Horrible Bosses, hilarious. Colin Farrell was awesome.

I'm in the minority on "Contagion" apparently. I didn't think it was that good. They did a fine job of keeping a linear, tight storyline, and that actors did well with what they were given, but I don't think a plot that large can be put into a standard two-hour movie. Thus, you've got shallow characters and unfulfilled storylines. I had no connection to any characters, not even the Matt Damon one who (SPOILER ALERT) lost his wife and son within a half hour. You never saw him grieve until the very, very end. The Marion Cotillard character and the kidnapped storyline seemed like a cop-out. She's very active in her role and then she disappears for the 45 minutes, and when they come back to her she's apparently connected to the kidnappers/village. It didn't seem believable because it wasn't set up well. It cheats the audience.

Apollo 13 is on my cable station now. Finally, something decent.

Saw "The Assignment" for the first time last night. Good stuff and, as usual, Donald Sutherland put forth a solid performance.

'The Art of Flight' from Brainfarm's Curt Morgan. A snowboard film but shot so beautifully with a great soundtrack.

    "Barton Fink."

Had never seen it. Amazing. I could spend a week reading the interpretations of it that are out there.

Is the John Goodman character basically Tyler Durden?

More than a bit over the top, but the powers-that-be are forgiven.

    Will never forget it.

I loved the movie. I thought it was hysterical.
GF loves it even more than I do, and she's never smoked pot in her life.

  12. I watched Everything Must Go last night starring Will Ferrell. I thought it was a good little flick. Nothing earth shattering or must-see about it, but I thought it was just enjoyable. Cool to see Ferrell in a role where he's really got to act and not just be a goofy, over-grown 12 year old and I thought he pulled it off really well.

Also saw Blue Valentine last week. It was definitely slit-your-wrists depressing, but a tremendous story that Gosling and Williams absolutely nailed.
