    "Blood Simple."

I've been absolutely binging on the brothers Coen lately. To me, they are almost like the Dylan of film makers - even when they are off their game (and they are not off of it here), they give you so much to talk about.

Remarkable that this movie was made in 1984, and great to see two masters so early in their career. The climactic scene is one of the best I've ever watched.

I was blessed to see this in original release when I was living in D.C., on the strength of a glowing review in the WashPost.

The "intolerable cruelty" was to actually have to sit through this movie in the theatres. By far the worst movie the Coen's put out. Love "No Country for Old Men". One of my favourite movies.

Yeah, seems to me just posting the name of the movie without adding any additional info, particularly your opinion of it, belongs more on Foursquare than on SportsJournalists.com.

Damn. Tough room. The thread title is last movie you watched, so I answered!

The Help was much more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Took The Queen because she wanted to see it and I was doing my husbandly duty. It was slow but interesting. I wouldn't see it again but I did enjoy it.

The Debt was odd. It was a good movie but it was 3/4 done before I figured out the characters. They did a lot of jumping back and forth - past, present, in between - and I'm nowhere near smart enough for that. I knew nothing about it going in. Another in the "enjoyed it but have no interest in seeing it again" file.

There was one scene that was ridiculously cool, won't give it away here but you'll know it when see it.

    Three stars for The Help.
    Two 1/2 for The Debt.

    And WTF is foursquare?

See, now that's an informative post!

    ;)

As for Foursquare -- just because I name check it, doesn't mean I know what the hell it is (although I think it's a social media device where you alert all your friends as to where you are at the moment.)

Pretty much. And you compete with your friends to see who has the better social life based on how many points you rack up. Good news: I get some points. Bad news: It's because I foursquare 75N and 75S on my commute. I have no actual check-ins any place that involves fun. Grocery stores, Humane Society, commute. :D

"Drive" - I fully expected to love it, but, alas, I did not. In fact, I actively disliked it. I had read a Tweet from Shawn Ryan (creator of "The Shield") that said it was "needlessly gory." And he was right. Gory and graphic and way too stylized. I would pay money to watch Ryan Gosling watch paint dry and he was very good as a man of very few words, but overall, I was extremely disappointed.

(This happens to me at least once a year - I go into a movie expecting to love it and instead, I hate it (or in this case, really dislike it). Previous films in this category include "Juno" and "The Departed." Such a letdown.)

Well, now I'll have to keep an eye out for your reviews, since The Departed and Juno are my two most overrated movies.
