Sounds like two hours of repressed self-loathing.

    Shocked Eastwood took this on.

I find it hard to believe that Eastwood and DiCaprio could make a piece of shit, but that seems to be the consensus so far.

    'Bad Teacher' = terrible
'Tree of Life' = very ambitious, although ultimately it falls short
    'Submarine' = absolutely loved it
'Peep Show' = wanted to like it but hated it
    'Captain America' = terrible
'Thor' = expected to hate it but didn't

Is it fair to ask if Eastwood is starting to lose it at this point?

We said it about Paterno routinely, then and now. Is it fair to say it about Eastwood?

No way. Even if he did put out a bomb with his new flick it still doesn't take away from what he's done the past couple of years.

Now, if he puts out another two or three stinkers in a row? Then we can question it.

    "Invictus"?

    "Hereafter"?

Hereafter wasn't awful. Certainly better than about 90% of the rest of what Hollywood does.

And I haven't seen Invictus so I can't comment there but I have seen Gran Torino, Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby and those were all really good so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Watched the new "Pirates of the Carribbean" flick tonight and wasn't impressed. At one point in the movie, Sparrow said "it's not the destination, it's the journey." Unfortunately, the movie didnt take it's own advice.

I wasn't expecting a grand epic on the scale of "The Lord of the Rings," but there was no sense of the journey in this movie. It was swordfight, dialogue, swordfight, macguffin, rinse, repeat.

"Clash of the Titans" was no great cinematic feat, but at least you got a sense of the group traveling and facing obstacles on a long, difficult journey. "On Stranger Tides" was just set piece after set piece, many of which included action that just made no sense.

I really enjoyed the first "Pirates" movie, fell asleep during the second and never finished it, and I never saw the third. I hoped this one might get me back into the franchise, but it failed.

What did you expect from a movie franchise based on an amusement park ride?

Saw Immortals tonight. Just turrible. The acting was bad, the sets worse, and the props worse yet. Lots of action and what have you, but it was way overdone with the same tricks throughout. And the script was awful. It was a wreck and I had pretty high expectations going in without seeing any reviews. Crash and burn. 3D added very little.
So far the best 3D experience I've had in a movie so far is still Avatar and nothing else comes even close. It's just too bad Avatar was another shitty flick.

    Cedar Rapids...

I saw the 1st half hour about a month ago at a buds house, but had to go to work and finally got it on Netflix. Funny at points, but I wasn't in love with it.

I haven't seen the Hoover movie.
Didn't see 'Invcitus,' and 'Hereafter' sucked.
But I liked 'Gran Torino,' 'Changeling,' 'Letter from Iwo Jima' and 'Million Dollar Baby.'
Those are four strong movies in a decade.
