Last movie you watched......

I thought it was passable, nothing more.

 

I didn't fall for the hype. Glad of it, as SS continues to demonstrate that -- despite his utter mastery of certain niches -- he remains eminently fallable when he wanders away from his specialties.

 

I want to see The Muppets real bad. I love me some Beaker.

 

"Uncle Buck" and "Cool Runnings." They were better than I assumed. "Uncle Buck" actually had scenes dealing with fairly complicated issues.

 

Spielberg is at his zenith when reined in. His best work is his stuff from early in his career, like "Raiders ..." and "Jaws," when he was kept in line by studios. Also, his "nonfiction" work like 'Saving Private Ryan," "Amistad," "Schindler's List," "Catch Me If You Can" and "Munich," in which real-life events keep him grounded.

Left to his own devices, he's often overly maudlin and led toward a needlessly happy ending (see: "A.I" and "Minority Report")

 

Muppets, which was awesome. My 4-year-old about crapped his pants when they ended things with Manemana, which is his favorite song. Just a really fun movie.
Also saw Scream 4, which sucked.

 

"Fucked by a Vampire" sounds like the porn version of "Interview with a Vampire."
"You want to suck my blood? Howsabout you suck something else first?"

Go so the movie; nothing was spoiled.

 

I think Alyssa Milano already made that movie ...

 

"Super 8."

Really good when it focuses on the relationships between the kids and just the adolescent experience in general. Very "Stand By Me"-ish.

Not so good when it focuses on the sci-fi plot-by-numbers.

And, yeah, the train wreck extravaganza was total CGI masturbation.

 

Rented "Bridesmaids" from Redbox last night. Really liked it. Girlfriend absolutely LOVED it. So I guess you'd call that a win-win.
