Just came back from seeing "War Horse." It takes a while to get cranking and it's sentimental as all get-out, but I thought it was pretty well-done overall.

That would be an apt description. Just saw it last night. Had very little knowledge about the story heading in, just that it had good reviews. I quite liked the movie, especially once you get beyond its graphic nature, especially the rape scene -- not my cup o'tea. Although the revenge was a nice trade off. But the movie itself, the story, etc. I liked quite a bit, although I did find it a little predictable on who the bad guys were, figured it out pretty early.

Went and saw Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 last night with Mrs. Novelist. It was her turn to pick. She enjoyed it. Not really my cup of tea, but then I'm really not the target audience. Coulda used more Ashley Greene.

Hostel/Hostel II on back-to-back nights on IFC. Meh.

I like my horror leavened just a little bit. The second one might have been a touch better, but who cares?

Watched Columbiana on Amazon last night. Pretty cool flick. Fun use of dogs and sharks. And Zoe Saldana. Hay carumba

I have never watched any of the torture porn genre movies and I have no intentions to do so. Take that back. I watched the first "Saw." It is on the short list of worst movies I have ever watched.

I'm curious: What are these movies like?

Mostly white linen and teacup affairs.

Seriously, what do you think "torture porn" movies are like?

Yeah, it was such a stupid question.

Perhaps critics shouldn't even review them.

Obviously everyone already knows everything about them. So why even bother?

I have no idea what your response means.

You asked what movies featuring torture and porn are like.

Naked people and gruesome ways to die are graphically depicted. Tim Tebow is a fan.

I have no idea what critics or reviews have to do with any of this.

That's all you really need to know.

Unless you're trying to ask something else.

I'm not sure why this is the hill you are choosing to die on. Why so pissy?

    It's a fair question.

What is a particular genre of movies like? Are the plots any good? Are the plots secondary? Does the level of violence vary? Is there gore or are the situations themselves what make people squimish? Why do people like them? How have they developed from "Hostel" and "Saw" onward? What elements appear in each?

I'm baffled about why you find this question so offensive.

I wasn't pissed. In any way. At all.

The only thing I find offensive is you.
