Was deciding between Contraband and Dragon girl.

My wife, reading the description: "Violence, rape, graphic nudity. Huh. That sounds pretty good. We should see that."

    Guess we're seeing that.

Wahlberg is the worst big-name actor working. Bale was light years better than Wahlberg in The Fighter. It's not hard to be "understated" when you have the emotional range of a carrot.

It's more or less the Blair Witch Project set on the moon. Good spooky, conspiratorial fun, I thought. It was worth $5 On Demand rental.

Just got done watching "Another Earth," which won some recognition at Sundance. It was an excellent debut effort by director Mike Cahill.

As others have noted, there were a few instances of maybe "overdirecting," but they didn't detract from the film. Just a director finding his footing, more than anything.

It was an excellent concept and at first I thought I was going to hate the ending, but it turned out to be pitch-perfect.

My only quibble was that the guy who played Ethan from "Lost" wasn't quite able to pull off the emotional climax of the film (hence the cut away from him and voice dub). That was an intense scene that ended up falling just a bit flat.

But I still enjoyed the movie.

If there's one person on this board I think would enjoy this, it's Dick Whitman.

We watched Source Code last night...not bad. My wife said it was better than she thought it would be, while I felt it didn't quite live up to my expectations. I probably would have liked it better if the movie ended when time froze. I didn't hate the "happy" ending, but it didn't seem to fit with the tone of the rest of the movie.

With the wife out of town tonight, I might try to tackle one of the following movies on the DVR:

    Blood Simple
    Swimming with Sharks
    Animal Kingdom
It's Kind of a Funny Story

Any suggestions from that list? I'm probably leaning toward Blood Simple.

"Blood Simple" might have my favorite final scene of any movie ever.

But "Animal Kingdom's" ain't bad, either. It's one of my favorite films from 2010. I wish it had gotten more pub than it did.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with either one of those two. That would be a hell of a double feature on a Saturday night at home.

Oh, another one I watched last night was the new version of "Fright Night." Not a great movie, but better than I was expecting. I've never seen the original, so I'm judging this one on its own.

    Worth $1 at Redbox.

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. Take what I said about Contraband last night. We enjoyed it. Hardly great. Just an action thriller with lots of torn up property and people.

Just watched HappyThankYouMorePlease. Thought I remembered someone here writing about it, and IShouldCoco had it right: What a terrible movie. No one likeable in the whole thing, and the basic plot point of more than half the movie was completely unbelievable.

    Horrid.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo this morning. 11:45 a.m. showing and the place was packed. Damn good movie. Long, but I never lost interest. At times disturbing and creepy; at times awesome. Well worth $6.

Rented An Old Fashioned Orgy tonight from the Red Box. Not great, but funny enough. I like that Jason Sudekis guy, or however you spell his last name. Funny dude. Well worth $1.
