But it's so damn good. I didn't love the rest of the movie, but the beginning was amazing.

I was a little disappointed by Wall-E. Just too slow. My daughter loved the characters, but she got bored at times. A good movie, but not as good as Nemo.

It's funny. The first time I saw Finding Nemo, I missed the beginning. Picked it up with Nemo waking his father up on the first day of school. It was a later viewing that I found out how they got to that situation. Honestly, I liked it better without that opening scene.

Saw Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy a few days ago. Agree with the "muddled" description, but I believe that was intentional. I love any movie that is crafted with such care. A patiently measured performance by Oldman. The movie forces you to be painstakingly observant (like George Smiley) without turning the task into drudgery. As mysteries go, I liked it way more than Dragon Tattoo.

    Water For Elephants.

Designed to be a tearjerker. Works.

This right here. Loved "Ides of March" and "The Descendants," but the latter is what's going for the Best Picture trophy. Ides would be lucky to get a nom.

Oh, yeah.... "(500) Days of Summer." What a fantastic, fantastic movie.

It works for so many reasons: JG-L and Zooey Deschanel have amazing chemistry, the nonlinear storytelling structure, that the two writers took real-life experiences and were on completely opposite ends of the relationship spectrum at the time it was scripted, the unique style (narrator, black and white clips, split screens), and it despite being a love story it WASN'T the cookie cutter romcom crap. LOVED this movie.

Anyone see the HBO doc "Superheroes"

    Piss-my-pants funny.

Yes, these people are doing something good...but they are so misguided and seem to actually think Batman is a folk hero, not just a fictional work.

The last 10 minutes is redeemable since they do help the homeless a lot...but that doesn't make you a "super"hero...it makes you a good person.

"I Am Number Four." Meh. Thank God it was lent to me, not even $1.29 Redbox fee.

If there's two names top billed that have made me want to see a movie less than this, I can't think of them:

I went to the movies this week on Martin Luther King Day in an integrated neighborhood and I'll tell you what, there were a lot of African-Americans in line ordering up tickets for "Joyful Noise." A lot.

Sounds like Joyful Noise might be the breast movie ever.

Rewatched Thor tonight for the first time since I saw it in theaters. Holy crap what a great movie.

I liked it initially but had a real hard time following along since I wasn't familiar with the mythology/characters but, this time, I was in right from the start and I loved it. Much, much better on the rewatch.

I especially loved the character development of Thor himself. (SPOILER) It's kind of cool to see him transform from a guy who is bloodhungry and just wants to battle everyone and prove himself the best to a character that is willing to sacrifice himself for others.

And I especially loved seeing him destroy the bridge now that I had an idea of what exactly he was doing. Very tragic-hero situation there.

Needless to say, I'm pumped to rewatch Captain America now as well and definitely can't wait for the Avengers.
